That's really too bad, but not expected. I was really hoping that they would hang on for a bit longer so that I could get hooked up and have a nice off air antenna. I wonder if they are going to try to get their boxes back and if so what they will do with them. Anyone own a boat?
the latest news is the following:
LOS ANGELES, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Cablevision Systems Corp (CVC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it will close down its VOOM business after failing to reach a deal for VOOM HD LLC to buy the business, assets and liabilities of Cablevision's Rainbow DBS satellite business.
But VOOM HD LLC said it was prepared to finance the continued expansion of the VOOM satellite service. Supported by the family interests of Charles and Thomas Dolan, VOOM HD, LLC has advised Cablevision it continues to be interested in completing a transaction on the terms and conditions of the letter of intent into which the two companies entered several weeks ago.
The letter of intent between Cablevision and VOOM to pursue such a deal expired Monday. Rainbow was not included in Cablevision's deal to sell some satellite assets to EchoStar Communications Corp (DISH.O: Quote, Profile, Research) . Cablevision plans to provide the VOOM service for a transition period of a minimum of 30 days, and is also encouraging employees whose jobs would be affected by the closure of VOOM to pursue other jobs at the company.
hang in there voomers, mixed messages mean negotiations are probably ongoing
Ok I am confused
I thought dish bought the Rainbow 1 satellite and the uplink center .....
How can voom continue if dish has there satellite and there uplink center?
They had hoped to get enough $$$ together to lease space on another bird. This of course would require a larger dish. Personal financing would be a gutsy move on the family's part.
definitely a soap opera going on a cvc
VOOM has leased space at 72w from SES. Customers would need a new dish and have it pointed to the leased satellite.
It looks like VOOM has about 11 transponders lit up on AMC 6 for some time now.
Stick a fork in VOOM.
The new dish should already be in the works as the space at 72w(AMC-6) was part of the expansion plan announced earlier.
Looks like a "pissing contest" between father & son.
They sent out competing memos yesterday.
Copies of memos.
But How are they going to send stuff up to AMC-6 if dish own the uplink center now. Are they going to lease space there too. Voom plan is this take all 26,000 customers give them a new dish plus install, and then lease space on amc6 and some uplink center probably the one that they just sold to echostar.
This is not a group of smart people.
Voom has 2 uplink centers.
They are selling their satellite & 1 uplink to Dish.
Voom wants to use the leased sat and other uplink to support their customers.
New customer count is now 46,000.
That was part of problem with the VOOM group at Cablevision. A lot of grand ideas but not a lot of finanical reality.
Now does this leave Voom open to Echostar to buiy the rest of there assets. Such as the other uplink center and the name etc.
I think Dish had the option to buy all of VOOM, but decided to only pick up the Sat & uplink center.
They only wanted the assets and none of the liabilities. Can't say I blame them.
Cue the fatlady. She's up in 30 days......
The other uplink center is likely associated with the Rainbow Media properties and not for sale.
www.voom.com now says:
Voom has ceased taking new customer orders and will shut
down by the end of March.
