Is there a way to take a HR20-100 out of RF mode manually? I have an old HR20-100 that I am trying to hook up. When I had it connected before (about a year ago), it was in RF mode, but I only have an IR remote with me. I originally thought "no problem, just use the control buttons on the front of the box to navigate setup" but the down arrow button is not working and that essentially keeps me from doing anything. Is there any way to "reset" the box to factory condition (i.e., so that it defaults back to IR mode)?

    Thanks in advance!

I've never done this but I think if you can get into the Settings page and hit Reset in the left hand column you will bring up a screen that gives you three options. Try the second option first to reset to default settings and if that doesn't work try the option on the bottom.

    Maybe go here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=200024

go to the section on "Remotes", it is a PDF download, there is a section on it that tells you how to enter a "961" code to change between RF and IR.
    It may work for you....

This is from the Remote manual. I just cut an pasted it from the .pdf for the RC64.

    Activating the RF Transmitter

To activate the RF transmitter on your DIRECTV Remote
    Control, perform the following steps:

    1. Locate the 12 digit Receiver ID (RID) number of your
DIRECTV Receiver. You can find the RID number on
the back panel of your receiver, or inside the CAM
access door next to the reset button.

    2. Write down the last six digits of the RID number.

    3. Slide the mode switch to DIRECTV, AV1, or AV2.

    4. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the
green light under the selected switch flashes twice and
    release both keys.

    5. Using the number keys, enter 9 6 1. (The green light
    flashes twice.)

    6. Press and release CHAN Up. (The green light flashes
    twice.)

    7. Using the NUMBER keys, enter the the last six digits of
the RID number. (See step 2 above.)

    8. Press and release the SELECT key. (The green light
    flashes twice.)

    Deactivating the RF Transmitter

To deactivate the RF transmitter on your DIRECTV Remote
    Control, perform the following steps:

    1. Slide the mode switch to DIRECTV, AV1, or AV2.

    2. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the
green light under the selected switch flashes twice and
    release both keys.

    3. Using the number keys, enter 9 6 1. (The green light
    flashes twice.)
    13

    4. Press and release CHAN Down. (The green light flashes
    twice.)
The RF transmitter on your remote control is now
deactivated. To reactivate the RF transmitter, See
    “Activating the RF Transmitter” above.

I think you have to press Channel Down for that.

You're correct. The character didn't cut an paste correctly. I edited my original post to include Up & Down.

    Thanks for catching that. :)

I believe that all the things mentioned to do with the remote is to put the Remote into RF or out of RF mode and will do nothing to the receiver.
With the lack of navigation buttons on his receiver I think his best bet is to get an RF remote and set it up for the receiver.
Ebay has them for under $7.50 almost all of the time. Others like Walmart and Best Buy have them if you are in a hurry.

The way to set it the DVR back to IR factory settings is to use the front panel navigation unfortunately. You seem to be in a unique situation where you cant use the remote OR the front panel. Which I believe means you will need an RF remote to get it switched back.

Yeah, I don't see any way to do it without the front panel working correctly after pondering what I would do in that situation. I actually went thru something like that with a replacement 20-100. Never did get the thing working.
