Yes, I agree. The ads led me to believe we'd be getting an HD version this year.
What's worse is that each window is zoomed also which cuts off more of the sides.
Yep. Couldn't agree more. I thought I would be getting a mix channel in HD.
Why is the Maryland-Cal game still blacked out on MMM here in Portland? They have switched to the Washington game. Seriously I am paying good money for this!!!
Just got a call from Directv informing me of what a great deal this package is and they can sign me up right now. Wonder if they didn't sell as many this year and have turned to calling directly to customers and trying to sucker them in.
The picture on the MMM channels is outstanding. Much better than the local feed OTA here.
Well, after saying I didn't necessarily see the value in this earlier, I decided to get it anyway cause I got nothing better to do.
So far I like it except for a couple of things:
1. As was mentioned, the mix not being in HD. On my 126" screen, it's virtually unwatchable (can barely even read the score of the game).
2. I guess I didn't realize it was just the same CBS feed with banners and all. I tried recording two games earlier, so that I could watch one for 15 minutes or so and then flip to the other, but the constant score banner at the top pretty much ruins that so you're relegated to watching almost everything live.
3. As with point 2, there's been a couple of times when the feed switches to a different game, especially if the other game is ending. If I wanted to watch the end of the other game, I'd go there myself.
4. When on the score page (red button), the scores aren't updated in real time like they are on the CBS score banner.
I think the mix should definitely be in HD, when you choose a game it should remain on that game only (except for halftime and such), and they should come up with a way to remove the score banners from the screen. That's what the red button is for.
On a side note, I do like the Score (Red button) option overall. I've been using that a lot. Not as good as 4 games at once, but not too bad.
This is my first year to have MMM. The only real complaint I have at this point is the poor quality of the game mix channel. It's really nice to be able to switch games at will and not having CBS do it for me.
This is my first year also having MMM, and overall I liked it..
The only thing that I felt was annoying was how they blacked out the upper 70x channels if the game was showing on your local CBS affiliate, but you were able to view the game in the mix channel? I don't understand that one... The reason why I felt it was annoying, was that if your local game went to another game, you were pretty much stuck watching your local game on the mix channel until they went back to it. This happened to me while watching the Illini/W.Ken game...
I agree tho, an HD mix channel would have made up for it.. Overall tho I really liked being able to watch all 4 games to my choosing (When one game would go to commercial I would just go to the mix channel and change to a game that was playing), and the games in HD looked fantastic!
This is my first year with MMM too and I have really liked it except for the mix channel. One thing I really liked was when our local CBS switched away from a game that game was immediately available on the MMM channel that had been blacked out.
That is not always the case if your local CBS station switchs to another game D* normaly will open up that game in the 70*. So if it happens today or siometime durring the week check the 700.
Also received the call. Thought they might be offering a discount on the price, nope, I said never mind and good bye.
It's worth it if you have vacation time, are a college hoops fan, have multiple hi def tvs in your man cave and the wife is working both days.
I curse Directv some days but they do know how to create a good pay-per-view sports package.
This is my second year with MMM. There is not a better way to watch the tournament. My only complaint is with the mix channel.
- Make the 4 games in the mix channel HD
- Maximize the screen real estate so all we see is the 4 games. The extraneous information is unnecessary on the mix channel.
- Figure out how to be able to switch directly to the game on your local CBS affiliate from the mix channel.
I'd like, if possible, is to be able to switch to all 4 games directly from the mix channel. You can switch to 3 of the 4 games but not the game that is on your local CBS affiliate as it will switch to the blacked out 7xx channel instead. Not sure if this is possible, or not but it would be cool if MMM would be able to determine which of the 4 was on you local CBS channel and switch you there instead.
What the hell is a man cave?
I thought we were evolving.
A "masculine" way to say a devoted tv/game room without any "womanly" amenities.
Like this, found on google:
The only man caves I've ever had looked more like real caves than that picture.
That looks like a game room to me. Besides, don't women like to have a drink and watch movies too? I know my wife does. Man Cave seems like a term from the Little Rascals.
I agree, stew. It's more of a "cool" term some men use.
Interesting situation tonight here in Cleveland as the CBS affiliate will have the Sienna/Ohio State game and CBS gave permission for the MyNetwork to air the Cleveland State/Wake Forest game. Wonder if D* will keep the HD MMM channel open due our MYN station's HD signal not being picked up by D*.
