I was looking forward to seeing this channel since it is one of the channels in the HD Extra pack.
But looking at the Daily Movie Schedule for the rest of the month and the Movie Catalog this channel dosnt look like it would push me over the edge to pay the extra $5 a month for the pack.

Only channel I would miss so far in the pack is HD NET...

Are those with existing "HD Access" plans being grandfathered in to the HD Extra pack? Will we get this channel?

Do we know if the films will be edited for content?

I can't say for sure, but I picked a few "R" rated movies that shwed runtimes on MGM, and compared the runtime to that on IMDB. About half of them were shorter by anywhere from 3-15 minutes. If the data was correct from both places, it does look like at least some of them will be edited in some way.

You will only get it for free until Dec 15th (at least this is the date everyone is saying).. after that.. if you want it you will have to pay $4.99 for the pack...

I'm hoping we get the original versions. I also found some movies listed as being longer on the MGM page than on IMDB, so I'm not sure how much attention one can pay to the times. And if the films were edited for TV, the MPAA ratings should have been replaced by TV ratings. Hopefully, we'll find out tomorrow.

I also read that as of September, only 1200 of its 4100 movies had been converted to HD, thus requiring more repetition than we will see later.

The schedule looks like a lot of movies that haven't been shown anywhere else for a while, to my knowledge. I'm looking forward to it.

If you look they give the Movie ratings for these and not the TV ratings so this might lead one to believe that they are the original versions.

    Time will tell :D

For Mad Max alone this is going to be insane.

What are the FCC rules regarding who can show unedited movies on TV? Is MGM considered a pay movie channel.

I would suggest keywords of extra, grandfathered or MGM.

Unless it has changed, the only FCC content restrictions are against local stations (which, of course, also impacts the OTA networks.)

Many basic cable channels such as Sci-Fi edit movies to avoid complaints so they can stay in basic packages.

That probably depends largely on the answer to Iman and stsrep's questions about commercial sponsorship.

Looking at the schedule and the runtimes, it does not look like their will be any commercials. There seems to be only about 5 minutes extra between start times.

Yeah, this channel has premium written all over it. I would assume no commercials, unedited content (as this is a channel launched by the owners of the content) This belongs in a package all by itself, ie HBO/SHOW Etc..

HD Extra = $5 and MGM is part of that so yes I would say it is.

"The way movies were meant to be seen" would suggest not, but we shall see.
