WHY single out Mike White? Because he is the head dude. He sets the tone for the company. Just like Larry Scott of the Pac 12, he'll be judged on what happens.

I'm gonna make a few wild guess why Mike White is being singled out in this forum.

    1. The forum is called: DirecTV Programming. Maybe that is just a coincidence though.
    2. PAC12's letter SPECIFICALLY mentions DirecTV. But of course that could also be a coincidence.
    3. DirecTV is the only company that has made comments about PAC12, specifically how they thought the first weekend wasn't worth it. Again however, this could be a complete coincidence.

Come to think about it, besides complete coincidences, I can't think of a reason why Mike White's name came up. :D :D

That is about as likely as Kentucky and Mississippi State winning the SEC East and West and playing in the SEC Title game on December 1.

The only PAC 12 game that is a must see for those who are not from the PAC 12 is Oregon at USC. Stanford at Oregon and USC at Stanford might be worth watching, too, but the rest of the conference games are meaningless outside of PAC 12 territory.

Notre Dame at USC, a non-conference game, will probably have the largest TV audience of any game involving a PAC 12 team just because it is Notre Dame. It does not even matter if Notre Dame is any good - people will watch the game.

Michael White has only said that DirecTV will not devote seven CONUS slots to one conference. That is not an unreasonable position. It is the PAC 12 that came up with a plan that will not work for a national carrier.

The fact that the PAC-12 is going out of their way to call out DirecTV is very telling. You don't see them complaining about Charter, FiOs or Uverse, only DirecTV. They have played their hand. They need DirecTV.

And that makes perfect sense within the cable companies' territories. If no cable company offers the package in a given territory, then the PAC 12 should be allowed to distribute the streaming rights to individuals living in that territory.

Stanford football is on right now. And I can't watch it on directv. i could care less what they are rated I want to watch them. And every other west coast pac 12 game that is on tv in hd. Texas will never care about the pac 12, but I do. Of course I won't cancel directv for the pac 12. I get every NFL game for free. But I may have to add cable tv to my monthly bill and home theater connection/switching hassles. Just keep calling directv and complaining about adding a $50 per month fee just to watch a few college football games.

I got rich when they shut off Versus for 7 months and i'll bribe them for credits until they offer at least 1 pac 12 network channel. Fill their phone lines with "support my $&#%* cable bill" until they give in. Today I mentioned the sports pack is worthless except for soccer channel and she didn't know what to say. No pac 12 no sports pack!

My thought is that if the PAC-12 allowed streaming outside of their contracted subscribers it reduces their negotiating power for the uncovered markets. For example, if everyone has access to the network either via cable or streaming the value to DirecTV is reduced and thus PAC12's negotiating position is reduced. Also, DirecTV subscribers would be less upset about this whole process and would not be putting pressure to get the network on DirecTV. Just my thoughts...no working knowledge to substantiate it....

It is your opinion that it is a plan that will not work for a national carrier. You have no experience in TV, cable, satellite, or anything close. Directv is playing hardball. They have an unusually large number of re-transmission agreements coming up right now and they do not want to make it seem like they are going to pay anyone anything or everyone else wants more.

Good observation. They want/need national coverage.

It doesn't work for a satellite provider. Seven channels is too much to dedicate to one conference. When the PAC 12 realizes that, a deal will get done.

Well, the WSJ thinks that the Cardinal is #1, using this methodology..

    ************************
    College Football's Grid of Shame

We Rate Every Team in Major-College Football by How Embarrassed Its Fans Should (but Likely Don't) Feel

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443864204577619653485090364.html

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...7619653485090364.html#articleTabs=interactive

The Grid is a subjective rating of every major-college team on two levels: how good the team should be this season, and how much shame it has brought its supporters. The shame scale takes into account a variety of factors, from NCAA rules-related scandals and player misbehavior to academic performance and financial state.

    Me?

I'll settle for a Rose Bowl appearance. I realize we won't contend for a national championship this year.
