I've looked around and haven't seen a solid estimate. (Saw that beta testing was happening way back in May.)

We talking 1 month away? 6 months? One year? Just looking for an educated guess from those involved in the testing.

    Thanks,
    Eric

My guess is 3 to 6 months.

    EDIT: I'll modify that to Q2 2010.

ericlovestivo, you might want to look into the Cutting Edge section of this site for more information on MRV if you're interested in that function.

Big secret. Too many other recent problems. Overloaded hard drives, audio and video stuttering. Might as well give up on this feature.

That's an oxymoron if I've ever seen one. :D

For now I'm delighted with double play and am not holding my breath for MRV.

Since MRV, along with lots of other 'goodies' (like home sever networking) has been promised since 2001 (CES); I'd say that at best, Y2018+ or thereabouts. The ability of the 'programmers' working for DirecTV (either directly or under contract), can be seen by the extremely slow progress they make on problems with the HR series of DVR's (usually two steps forward, one to two steps back).

Several companies, including a couple I consult to, have designed/built stand-alone systems that work with DirecTV receiver systems to provide this capability; I have one of them in my home (and have for almost 3 years, from an original system to a full-blown 'super-size' now).

Cost is around $10K+. System holds over 10K hours of HD storage, streams via ethernet 100Mb/1Gb wired or wireless. Interested, Google is your friend.

Don't worry, folks, it's still on the roadmap, and only a few exits away. And that's all you'll get from me :)

Well, the fact that they have mentioned it in recent financial calls means the executives must reasonably beleive it is coming somewhat soon. Otherwise they would be in some potential hot water with some analyst who might downgrade their stock from a super duper buy and hold to a great buy and cause their stock to tumble.

Not necessarily. Remember the HTPC that DirecTV was designing with Microsoft. That's good ol' vaporware now. Not that the HR24 will go that route (I doubt it), but just them mentioning it does not mean that it will be available anytime soon.

    Lets see...

Shadow confirms that it's on the map... check
"only a few exits away"... few == 12 (don't recall where I got that from, think it was my dad who used 12 to represent "a few").
typical yearly # of national releases... 5

    12/5 = 2.4

You heard it here first, the Shadow firmly predicted MRV within the next 2 years and 6 months, or no later than July 1, 2012 (I rounded up to allow for economic recovery factors, world is ending in 6 mos predictions and time-space continuum variations)...

    It's bonafide and guaranteed...

Even better that Doug has confirmed this as well...

Like everything else, once they feel they are ready to release this feature they will let everyone know. This is a pretty big one that they cant get wrong. There really isnt a rush.

Well, at least we will have about 5.5 months to use MRV before the end of the world on 12-21-2012!
