I finally broke down and replaced my HR-10 with and HR-20 this past weekend. I was not thrilled about lossing the Tivo software which is why I waited so long. With the new HD coming I finally threw caution to the wind and went for it.

D* charged me $20 for the HR-20 as well as the 5 lnb dish and new switch so it didn't cost much as far as money goes.

The installer agreed to put the dish on my chimney instead of my roof which made me happy. However, he showed up without the dish and had to wait with me for an hour and 20 minutes until his supervisor brought it to him. This did not make me happy. I complained about this to D* and they gave me three months of free Showtime for my trouble.

I must say I have been pleasantly surprised with how much I have been enjoying this new box. The interactive features are great. I also have found that the PQ is quite better, brighter and more colorful. I am not sure if this is a result of the box, the dish or the MPEG4.

My one dissapointment is with the remote. I was under the impression that this box came with an RF remote but when I went to set it up it didn't work. I guess I have to call D* and order one.

My perpose of this remote is to just share my initial experience here and to say I am real happy with my new toy.

I, too, am really happy with my new HR20. I was very reluctant to give up my TiVo interface. But aside from some minor hickups the HR20 has been great!

And the best part is that I have never seen "PLEASE WAIT"!!!

I'm converted...I drank the coolaide...I now prefer the HR20 interface to any TiVo....

I just had my HR20-100 installed a few weeks ago. The RF would not work unless the external antenna was attached. I have noticed that it doesn't work as well as my HR20-700. I enter channel numbers several times before it will successfully go to the channel I typed in.

The box can be controlled via RF remote, but that doesn't mean you have one. If the remote doesn't have an FCC sticker on the back, you don't have an RF remote.

I will check when I get home today and post. I will also look for the FCC sticker on the back.

You probably have an RC32RF, an RC34, or an RC64RF. All of which are RF capable.

I've had both an HR-100 and an HR-700. The RF on the -100 is rubbish compared to the -700.

How are people getting their HR20s so cheap? Are you threatening to leave or something? They won't budge off the price for me.

Tell CSR that dish network is offering new customers a free dvr, dish, installation, 6 months HD programming & HBO and Cinemax for 3 months. Ask them if they will batch their offer. If they say that they can't, then tell them that you will take the D Network offer. They will transfer you and the next person you speak with will match it. I just did this for may parents (who got a better deal than me as I paid 300 for mine).

I'd call and tell them to cancel my order if they will not match D Network. Trust me...they do not want to lose your monthly $$ to the competition. ;)

I have RC34 with the FCC ID sticker on the back.

Isn't this RF? I can't get it to work? I have read on this forum about some sort of antenna attachment for the back of the box but I got none. I have the HR20-700.

The -100 has the external antenna. The -700 does not have the external antenna.

So why can't I get my remote to work in RF mode I wonder? I am very technically inclined so I don't get it.

The -100 is infamous for problems with its RF remote capability. Mine got so bad that I turned it off and went with the IR mode. However, many folks have said they switched out their remote to the RC64 one and that it worked much better with the -100's RF feature.
