Regardless of the traffic or the people, You oughta be thanking those "rednecks" for coming to your lovely city and spending their $$ as you take that race out of Daytona and you lose a lot of $$$$.

    - jselinger24, i resent the 88 coment there, the 88 is much better than the "rainbow warriors" fans are. Not trying to turn this thread into a "my driver is better/cooler than your's" though. haha

Anyway, lets get some INFO on what the heck were gonna be offered.

    daytona...

just imagine, i live on us1 and i wear hearing aids. imagine how much fun i have during bike week.

and traffic is usually bad from the day before the twins through the 500 but usually only on the mainland. bike week is another story.

for the record, i would much rather deal with the bikers. they are helpful, thoughtful and spend much more money here in our fine county than the race people.

during my days in the news business, i covered both events. the only thing i really hate is spring break. thankfully that has curtailed considerably!! i use to love covering bike week because it was more money in my pocket.

i was a nascar fan for years but i can't stand the sport anymore. and i don't like the monoply the france family has. rant over, time to go back to the sopranos marathon!

Big difference, no overhead for the 'unique' broadcast on each driver channel. There will just be in-car video (probably split screen like hotpass) and the choice of team or network audio feed.

So that being said, will that mean that the cars this year will not have the roof mounted camera anymore since hotpass wont be using it, and hence the cars will now not have to have the little dome piece on top of car that was a dummy piece for cars that wern't on hotpass in order to keep the playing field the same aero and weight wise?

Something tells me they won't have anything ready in time. If they did there would have been an announcement already. We're too close to the season starting to not have an announcement if there is anything.

No, the networks will still want the roof cams.

The roof cams weren't just for hotpass.

Thats what I thought too. He threw me off when he said "no overhead for the 'unique' broadcast on each driver channel..."

Maybe he means the pitbox camera. My question is the only one I am interested in .. is it HD?

I would hope it'd be in HD. If not itd be taking a decent step back. Even though doing away with hotpass is a step back in my eyes in itself, no HD would be another big one there.

No, I mean 'overhead' as in costs and resources associated with having each channel carrying unique broadcast content (Announcers, pit reporters, extra cameras, production facilities, etc.).

My guess is "no overhead" means no cost.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath.

I'm just hoping they don't try to charge me something since Hotpass is still on my account at directv.com.

Have you looked lately for I checked mine this morning and it is no longer showing the Hotpass sub.

It had been there as recent as a couple of weeks ago but it is gone today!

At one point there was an 80-20 chance that something would be taking the place of Hotpass. I am beginning to think that the 20% prevailed. :(

I would still bet we will see "something", altough I must admit I am tending to feel less confident in the amount of content I have previously predicted. What most likely is delaying any official announcement is that they are still trying to aquire sponsors to help defray the costs. Without the subscribtion fees, whatever is offered will need to be funded by advertising and direct sponsorship. Given the difficulty teams and tracks are having in that area this year, that can't be an easy task.

Minimally, I think we will see at least the active channel with the leaderboard and stats menus. The rest will be determined by availability of sponsors or partners.

"NASCAR InsideTRACK on DirecTV, Presented by [your name here]..."

I, of course, am just guessing on the product name.

Still, there has to be an explanation for what they have in their system as HotPass that was mentioned earlier with the different/new pricing...
