Plans for a new Arena in Seattle have picked up big time, Chris Hansen is proposing to pay 290 million for a new arena. The cost is expected between 450-500m. Obivously the city would have to fund the rest.

He also wants to purchase 1 NBA and 1 NHL team.

for NBA at the top a list of these teams are a possible choice

Sacramento, New Orleans and Phoenix where their franchises face uncertain futures.

    NHL teams

top of the list Phoenix, NY islanders,

will see how this proposal goes.

My bet would be the PHX Coyotes to Quebec or Seattle

Can Seattle support a major league club any better than it supported the Pilots and Sonics? If not, then what happens when wonderboy runs out of money?

I still think Jack Sikma's "step back" shot was travelling.

I'd have to think PHX to SEA and the NYI to QUE.

Jimmy, I thought the problem was that Atlantic Yards was too narrow for NHL ice.

So has enough time passed that Seattle residents are willing to pony up for a new basketball arena after spending all that money on new places for the Mariners (Safeco Field ~$518M) and Seahawks (CenturyLink Field ~$430M)? In the past all of my co-workers in Seattle were against spending more money on sporting venues, I didn't know anyone personally who wanted to pay to keep the Sonics. Now those folks aren't necessarily a representative sample but it certainly doesn't show broad support either.

NYI and the Devils are playing the first sports event @ Atlantic Yards Oct 2012.
(First event is a JayZ concert.) It will be the first NHL game ever in Brooklyn. The old Brooklyn Americans practiced in the borough, but played at MSG.

Brooklyn is the likely next home of the Islanders (for those unfamiliar with NY geography, the new arena in Brooklyn is at the far western tip of Long Island), although owner Charles Wang would probably hope to leverage the threat of a move into a new Nassau County arena.

Seattle doesn't even fill up its Thunderbird games. They can't support an NHL team. The Portland Winterhawks do much better as do we here in Spokane. We put 10,000 butts in the seats on the weekend Chief's games.

Plus we have Rod Stewart's/Rachel Hunter's kid on our team. Ms. Hunter even moved here to Spokane.
