I've had DirecTV since I moved into my house 16 years ago. This was before the HOA was set up and the contractor wouldn't allow the dish to be on the roof, so it is on a short pole at ground level. Now, the neighbor's maple tree has grown enough to interfere with the signal. The HOA allows the dish to be on the roof, and there is good visibility from the roof.

Also, I was thinking about getting an HD dish to replace the SD Sony dish to be ready when I get around to buying an HD television (and leasing an HD receiver). Should I contact DirecTV to have the dish moved and upgraded, or would it be better to have a local reseller and installer do it?

Pesonally I would call and see what kind of deal they would have on upgrading you to an HD receiver or HD-DVR right now. You can hook them up to a standard def TV just fine, and the HD channels look way better than the SD channels even on an SDTV.

Also, for them to do this that means they will have to upgrade yor dish for you, and they will install it on your roof when they do so if that is where they can get the best signal.

The only thing is you will have to pay $10/month for HD service. However, if you sign up for auto bill pay, or are on it already chances are you can get them to give you a $10/month credit for a while that will cover this extra cost.

A dish relocate is $49 (I think). Or you may be eligible for a discounted or free upgrade to HD (reciever/box). DTV won't issue an HD Dish upgrade without an HD box

I had my roof dish replaced last year. I happened to mention it to the DTV gal on the phone when I called about something else. I was going to do it myself. I believe the cost was about $54. The DTV guy came out and put a steel post in ground and concreted it in. Dug a trench across lawn to post, put on a new dish and ran a swm line to house. Set everything up in house also for my 2 HD receivers. I couldn't do this myself at their price! Give'em a call.:D

I agree, call Directv and see what they have to offer. you may get a HD upgrade for free but, worst case you may have to agree to a 2 year contract.. but, being a customer for 16 years i don't see that being a issue:)

Thanks for the replies. The next few weeks are pretty busy for me. I'll call DirecTV in September.
