Still you are in a different DMA than Springfield. I live in the Burlington VT DMA but "moved" to the Boston DMA to get NESNHD. I "moved" less than 5 miles to achieve this.

Also, Comcast must really suck in your area if it looks worse there than on D*. I have a friend in the same town as me who gets NESN via Comcast (no cable on my street) and it destroys the 720p conversion D* has going.

NESNHD is NOT 720p on D*. Where did you get this information? NESN is in 1080i unless you set your receiver to only display 720p. I just checked it again to be certain before I posted this.

I don't know. I had NESNHD with Comcast in two different cities and both are worst then what is now in DirectTV. Of course it's not a huge mind blowing difference but enough so that even the wife could notice it, and she is the typical wife when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Wrong, it's 720p. You are doing something wrong.

NESN is down rezeed to 720p and I confirmed this with D* tech support a couple of months ago.

How can it be downsized if 720p takes up more space then 1080i?

    NESNHD is 720p here.

It does not take up more space I guess I don't know all the technical reasons why but it was down rezeed starting last Spring then went back to 1080i and then back to 720p. This should be corrected once it is launched in MPEG4 I guess sometime in October from what I have read.

I stand corrected. I didn't have native on when I added the res back in. When did this happen? It used to be 1080i for sure. I got a new tv and the set shows a blue screen when it changes res so I just set it to 1080i for everything. With my old tv this didn't happen so I left it on native. NESN used to show up as 1080i. Is this a recent change? Not that I think it looks bad anyways...

You are not out of the "special NESN HD spotbeam" It reaches well north of Boston, north of the lakes region!

To the Bruins bashers - you'll see, just wait.... :D

and as previously posted, NESN will not carry the Red Sox beyond the end of the regular season. TBS (now in HD) has the first 2 rounds exclusively.

Sox heading for best record in AL, Pats heading to Arizona and the Celts and B's are beginning anew - what a time to be a Boston fan!

I posted this in one of the many other NESNHD threads. Here's the original thread http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=88213

    The problem is this:

    1) NESN-HD is only being shown in the Boston DMA. This is DirecTV limiting this and not NESN preventing autorization

    2) Providence/Springfield is in the NESN market, but not the Boston DMA.

    3) Channel 95 is blacked out in NESN markets including Boston DMA

So because Providence/Springfield cannot get NESN-HD (because DirecTV not allowing) and because Providence is a NESH territory then Providence markets are SOL.

It has already been confirmed that the Spot beam reaches all the NESN markets, including Providence and Springfield. There is no technical limitation, DirecTV simply chooses not to authorize the channel outside of Boston DMA.

Save your breath and time and forget calling DirecTV.

I don't understand why the choose to do this. The same spot beam that carries NESNHD also carries the HD locals for Maine. The only thing I can figure is the guy running the sports department for D* is a Yankee Fan!!! :D
