I will try very hard to be there for at least some of it. I need to warn people about v1 WGAs as there are still a lot of them in the retail channel.

I am pretty sure I can make it for a bit on Wednesday but I'll be out of town Thursday night. I'm bringing the laptop but connectivity is the big question. :)

I have conflicts during parts of both but will be there as I can.

For anyone coming for help, may I suggest checking these two threads if you haven't already?

    HR20: Networking and ViiV
HR20: Networking with Windows Media Player

If nothing else see the basic steps ahead of time?

Also I have no ability to log a chat session but it seems it would be a feature that a mod could set up. Tom, Earl, Chris, could you set up logs of those chat sessions?

Final thought for now. Often in large chats there is a lot of OT banter. Would this be a time to ask to stay on task? It might encourage a person not normally in chat to open up and ask questions.

Not a bad idea. We probably won't be able to kill OT completely but I'm sure if we ask we can get it reduced to a murmur.

I am a novice with computer and really do not understand all of this networking.
Can I use a wireless router and plug a little receiver via USB in back of HR20.
I have a Sony VAIO laptop ,cable modem,D link wireless router and a linksys wireless USB adapter.
    Detailed instructions would be appreciated.
I do not believe that it would be so easy as to just plug in the wireless USB to back of HR20.
I will wait for instructions prior to trying that

You cannot use a wireless USB adapter. The HR20 do not support them. You will need a wireless adapter that has a ethernet connect not USB. I have a Linksys game adapter WGA54G and it works great. With that unit all you do it disconnect the ethernet connection that you have going into you PC unless you are going wirless now. Then plug the game adapter into the ethernet connection on the PC to set it up. Then run the disk that comes with it and it will take you through a few steps to set it up. Then unplug it from the PC and plug it into the back of the HR20. Then go into the HR20 menu and run the network setup. Then you should be up and running.

If you need more help please post again or join us in the chat room Wednesday or Thursday night.

Perhaps this poll would do better in the HR20 Q&A...

Maybe if we can get an idea when it's ready to go national. My thought is that only the CE folks will be willing to test this round.

I hate to be the wet blanket here, but what started out as a really good idea seems to be fizzling, from the poll it appears that only five people have signed up needing help. It appears we have more guru's than people who need help. Perhaps at this point it might be good to assign a guru to each person and let the helpee and their guru PM back and forth.

I would also recommend that the people who need help post their configuration here. The minimum starting point should be: I have run an ethernet cable from my router to the HR-20 , or I have hooked up a wireless adapter to my HR-20.

Did I miss a thread or announcement on VOD? Are we speculating that VOD is in the next CE, or do we know this?

A lot of us are guessing and hoping VOD will be in the next CE. Nothing from Earl or DIRECTV yet.
