That was pretty easy last night. I just plugged in the ethernet from the switch to the HR20 ran the setup and it said I was connected. It was just that easy.

You shouldn't have to do anything with your router just because you plug something else into it. I'm not familiar with that particular brand and I hate to force you to go to CSRs, but...

What happened when you switched the cables (Put the cable from the PC in the port where the HR20 is)?

If you can not get back on the internet on your computer, run the network setup again and see if that works. If not you may have to reset your modem.

Edit: Reset the Router before you reset the modem.

Nothing changed.I still get link lights no matter where I put the cables. There are four ethernet slots on the back of the modem/router.I just have one cat5 coming from the computer and one cat5 from the HR20.The other slots are empty. What I'am surprised about is the HR20 is happy and says everything is ok but I can't access the internet from the pc.I guess the HR20 is talking back to D* using the internet.I don't have the music and photo option under menu yet either but that may be a whole other ballgame.

I haven't done anything with my network on the computer when I put the HR20 on it.Should I need to? I just knew it wouldn't be as simple as plugging it in to the modem/router hence the name"button pusher".

Did you run the network setup? I would leave the HR20 disconnected for now. Sounds like you need to get back on the internet.

Yes I ran the network set-up on the HR20 and everything finally came back successful. But before I even ran the set-up I lost my internet.I know that because I tried to get on the chat last night before I continued,so far all I had up to that point was plugged the cat5 cable into the HR20 and the router. I even unhooked the HR20 from the modem/router and restarted the pc but still could not get on the internet.

I'am leaving the office right now and will be home later to try some of the things suggested.I hope to talk to you guys tonight in the Chat Room.Wish me luck!

Are you able to temporarily hard-wire the HR20 into the router? Also, I noticed that the bridge only supports WEP security. Is the router set to WPA security? Is the router working correctly with your main computer? If so, are you able to connect to the router configuration page 192.168.2.1 and check to make sure UPnP is enabled? Also, make sure your firewall is off while getting the connection to work. You also might want to manually configure the gateway as well instead of using DHCP. These are some of the possibilities, others here may know more specifics.

open a command prompt in Windows, type
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    if this doesn't do it

    type ipconfig /all

and cut and paste the results back here.

another suggestion: right click network icon ( two overlapping computers) down on rt side of bottom of screen, hit repair on popup menu

to open a command prompt: hit START button, run, type cmd.exe hit enter

I finally made it back on the internet after talking to Bellsouth CSR to check my modem settings and then the Dell CSR to find out what was blocking my internet. It turns out it was the personal firewall in McAfee that was blocking something with IE and only after I tried to network my HR20.That was weird!

Hey leww37334,is this to help get the HR20 to show up on WMP11 as ashared device? That is what I need help with now. Thanks

number 1 make sure you have the latest version of WMP11, open it, click the library button, click media sharing, check share my media, then OK unknown device should show up. click and go to HR-20 and check for Music and Photos entry in menu.

you may have to open some UPNP ports in your firewall

UDP port 1900 and TCP port 2869 maybe

Thanks to the help of a few guys in the chat last night, I got both of my HR20's connected to the internet and although it took a while for the 2nd one, I got WMP11 to recognize them both (I had to reset my second HR20 before it would be recognized) and now I'm all set with sharing. Thanks again for the help, guys.

I saw those ports talked about somewhere and I added them into the firewall exceptions. That did not help,so then I turned off windows firewall.Still no device shows up when I do the Library>Configure Sharing>Check the Share My Media Box.

I was able to get back on-line last night after uninstalling my Personal Firewall from McAfee. It didn't matter that I had disabled it in McAfee Security Center. It was still blocking Internet Explorer somehow.

I need to learn more about WMP11 and how to share files.I would say I don't have something in the right place to be able to share.Does that matter or should you be able to see devices before you have to add files to share?

I'll have to look when I get home from work this evening, but it's the latest version available. I was following the directions in the 1.1 tips that is on here and I uninstalled and then reinstalled WMP11 like it suggested.
