Found this today:
What does the forum make of this?
To me, it looks like shuffling to make room for more HBO channels (bumping the rest of the premiums "down" the lineup (in the Guide, that is), and thus to higher number channels.
I wonder why Cinemax West is mentioned twice. SD from 514 to 517 and HD from 514 to 516. Don't they have the same ch number for both versions ?
my guess is to make room for the new hd premiums, satracer promised.
well looks like I'm editing my favorites lists on the 17th...
Or will the lists fix themselves automagically?
Favorites lists may have some issues, they'll be worth checking.
For the record, the staff can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of this list.
The following table summarizes the available slots (number of contiguous channel numbers) for each channel group under the old channel numbering scheme compared to the new numbering scheme:
[TABLE]chan group|cur num chans|cur avail slots|new avail slots
Most of the current "available slot" counts already exceed the current number of channels in each channel group, and many of them were expanded.
For example, HBO currently has 8 channels and 11 available slots (3 empty slots). After the renumbering, there will be 6 empty slots for the HBO group. Hopefully, many of those new empty slots will be filled with some of the missing HBO channels.
Even if they don't plan to fill all the empty slots immediately, one might conjecture that an expansion from 3 empty slots to 6 empty slots for a channel group means that they plan to add something belonging to that channel group soon, and 3 empty slots wasn't enough room.

I sure hope they add more of the Cinemax channels, I mean seriously, 3 channels for 12.99? I don't think many people will buy that.
At this point, any confirmation or denial from "the staff" would be of little or no value, since there is virtually no reason to question the credibility or reliability of the source of the information.
There's no reason to accept it as gospel either.
I don't know, I think our staff is pretty reliable.
So they're shuffling channels and we're getting ready for new stuff. Sounds encouraging.
I didn't say they weren't. I just pointed out that we already have a reliable source for the information, so at this point, a confirmation or denial from "the staff", is inconsequential.
But back to topic, these channel moves combined with what satelliteracer has hinted at are indeed encouraging news for those of us hoping for more HD premiums.
The next 45-60 days should be exciting. Receivers. Features. Channels.
A great time at DBSTalk.
From PDI AND with the references to "head end channel re-assigns"?
Pretty Solid, Agreed.
Looks like (from the link)
That head end sites across the country with "premiums" are going to need some techs with small ac/dc hand held tv's and a yellow video cbl.
can we add versus to that list as a special channel?
I need a cryptic decoder here Sixto, was that a "Yes son, of course you can fly to the moon using a TARDIS when you get older" sure, or a "Yes, it's coming back soon" sure?
What happens to Series Links tied to the old channel numbers? Shouldn't DirecTV give all customers advance warning so recordings don't get messed up?
When channels have been moved in the past, the old channel usually has a "This channel has moved to xyz" in the guide.
