Composite cables from an HR21 connected to a Slimline 3 LNB dish.

Some movies are letter boxed, some of the Scify channel shows that he watches are postage stamps with black bars all around. Most shows are full screen or with really small pillar boxes on the sides, less than an inch. The picture is definitely better than the SD counterpart.

The upside is that these are probably the only Cinema HD channels that will be added to D12.

Is 36 HD PPVs really enough? Time will tell.
(BTW: I'm including channel 135 in the "36" as I don't believe they will leave a gap.)

In a couple of years there will probably be a half dozen 3D HD PPVs ... unless the fad fades. There will certainly be more 3D channels.

Now I know why I had no idea what the channel was...I watch the WC a little, but that's about it. It also goes to show, while some think it's a "must have" channel, there are probably as many (or more) who couldn't care less..although, I want EVERYTHING in HD.

I just saw an DirecTV commercial for for GMC (338) and it was in HD. I wonder if that is a hint of things to come.

It was mentioned sometime ago that DirecTV would be adding GMC in SD first, then HD later.

Is what Directv supports compatible with 3D that doesn't require glasses?

    You’ll need one of these: http://www.alioscopyusa.com/content/displays :D

Glasses-free 3D LCD. You can buy a 47” if you got fat bank.

Give it a few years, we’ll have glasses-free 3D on a consumer level.

Scroll down on this page (on the DirecTV website) to "What other 3D TVs are compatible with DIRECTV 3D?"

The set needs to be one of the sets specified. If your receiver doesn't recognize the set as 3D capable it won't send the signal needed to create 3D.

No, it doesn't. The list is only sets that they've tested, it's not the only sets that will work.

Regardless, the second half of that line still applies.

Considering all the extra programming D* does for soccer I was shocked that it wasn't part of the initial rollout. I'm trying to be patient. Hopefully it is up in time for the Community Shield in the beginning of August.

Yes, but if you're willing to spend the money on that TV, you can buy the device that clones HDMI EDID info to bypass DirecTV's 3D detection mechanism.

Most people probably don't have HD yet let alone 3d.

Most people do have HD. But 3D is a very tiny percentage right now.

+400 (number of new movies that are supposed to be on DirecTV Cinema - I counted 35).

They've got a long way to go. But I'm not complaining. The last thing we need is more PPV.

It's sad that it appears we'll get virtually no new HD nationals the rest of the summer. No AMC, HLN, TCM, E!, G4, BBCA, ...
