Hopefully they got all the premiums and cinema channels they wanted in with the first batch. Sure I have HBO and wouldn't mind having HBO Comedy, HBO Zone, and HBO Family in HD but they are adding too few nationals this time. I don't know why they would add 4 Showtime's for a total of 10 and only 2 HBO's to make 4 when HBO costs more for us.

Are the Spanish channels the only channels D* carries that you don't watch or are those the only ones that you think D* should give you money back for carrying?

Favorite lists can pretty much eliminate seeing any channels you don't like as someone who pretty much subscribes to the everything package I can vouch for the fact that I don't get half of the Spanish language channels D* offers in their foreign language packages. The Spanish channels they do carry in choice or choice extra are pretty mainstream. If you don't like them do what people do who don't like Fox News/MSNBC, QVC/HSN, or the religious channels, ignore them. It's not that difficult.

I hope, but until I see it I don't exactly trust. D*'s 30 list is strange. More Showtimes compared to HBOs. Lifetime but not LMN. I hope the list was a combination rush job (because of E*'s announcement) and waiting until both D12 and D10 are both in working order before promising more, but their track record hasn't been the best lately.

My take on this would be: I don't speak sports and I have no interest in sports programming. I wish there was a way to avoid those higher rates I'm paying because of over-priced sports channels and get a large rebate on my bill. :)

Family plan. Tho that will not stop the rest of the channel providers from being greedy just like the sports channels. They (nearly) all are demanding price unreasonable price [strike]gouges[/strike] increases.

    Cheers,
    Tom

    I'd take the following:

    Locals
News and Information (CNN, FOX, MSNBC, C-SPAN etc)
    HD Extra Pack
    Sports Pack (ESPN/NFL etc)
and rotate my movie packages as I see fit.

My hunch is most would do the same, maybe an education or kids pack that has Disney and Discovery. Long term it seems to me that we should be able to pick and chose on some level to group channels together in "theme" packages. Let what doesn't survive die. Leaves behind more bandwidth for what people really watch.

First group on the 20th. Second group on the 27th. Third group once D10 gets re-parked, maybe June 10th.

There are often other options for TV programming unless your housing situation has a contract with DIRECTV. DIRECTV doesn't want you to be unhappy.

That depends on whether or not DIRECTV is granted their application to try to fix D10.

so from what I've read from all the brilliant minds here (thats not a jab) D10 has had problems with spot beams for quite some time if im not mistaken..
D12 is the new kid on the block..and for their website touting a sizeable addition for May proud of how things are going with D12, the drift is happening ....it is now on the shelf or not coming all out in 1 shot (the 30 channels)???? because of an already againg D10??

Im not a rocket scientist how does an againg D10 affect progress going forward...since the new bird is already up there..Im aware a migrating process may happen..but D10 isnt dead junk either..

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

And D10 is less than three years old, a very small fraction of its projected 15 year operational lifetime.

It won't happen. The broadcasters would go broke & you'd be watching snow.

Why would any promises be re-negged now..? D12 is up there and in its final stages of going into service right? why would d10 delay ANY forward progress?? mean its already shoddy right? or now with a working bird they will roll out new HD's POORLY in order to migrate channels onto d12 from d10

I believe the plan is to migrate all of D10's channels to D12. (Leaving room for only about 10 new national channels.) They will move D10 to where it won't interfere with other signals, fix it, then move it back. At that time, they will have (assuming all goes well with the fix) all the capacity of both D10 and D12.

As you can see, that will delay when they can add the 30 planned national channels. However, it will be good in the long run to have D10's spot beams working at full capacity.
