The lady is correct. Please don't bash anyone else's favorite channel (or favorite channel yet to be launched in HD on DIRECTV.)

Ok, I'll let you guys bash the Hittite Clothing Channel all you want. :)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ... Seriously man ... you have a problem! We all know your views .... you have stated them over and over and over again. Nobody needs you to enlighten them to what, you feel, they may be missing.

I just find it funny he tries to discount a poll done by a forum of heavy users. I really dont see Travel being any more or less than BBCA.

I don't mind either company counting full-time PPV channels. I understand that bandwidth is allocated. Sure, it is a bit misleading, yet to me not grossly so.

I do mind Comcast's "10,000 items to watch" and Dish's "200 first" (using downloaded VOD) as very misleading. Dish's cuz it was only available on one DVR model (bad form) and Comcast... well almost in principle. :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

Yeah, the 200 thing took it to a new low IMO.

I watched HLN, on a daily basis, when it first started up. Their 1/2 hour news casts were just what you needed for a quick briefing of the news. Now I rarely watch anything on that channel. I would like to see them go back to that original format.

    Wow, that's worse than hockey;)

I agree. They do seem to run the 1/2 hour news show on weekends, and I think during the weekday. But yeah, they have filled it up with a lot of stuff I personally don't enjoy at all.

No doubt. HLN has become like a bad infomercial. They should go back or get rid of it. Maybe change it to CNN Sports... Or maybe D could spare us and swap it out for CNN International.

There already was a CNN Sports (Illustrated).

And technically there already is a 24 sports news channel, its on 207.

The funny thing is I actually gave up AMC and G4 in HD when I switched from comcast to D*. Breaking Bad and Mad Men are two of my favorite shows, and I do miss watching them in HD. But it is only one channel after all. I switched to D* because they offered a better overall selection of HD, and continue to add more channels. I was also amazed at what a superior picture D* offered once I switched. I have been both a customer of dish and cable, and D* has blown both away in terms of equipment, service, and customer service. On a side note, I actually broke my contract with DISH because I was so dissatisfied with them.

I have recently taken a look at the HD offerings of both comcast and dish. Right now, it isn't even close with comcast. Dish does offer a number of HD channels that D* does not, but of those channels the only ones I actually watch are BBCA, G4TV, TCM, and the Travel channel (not even dish offers AMC in HD). The travel channel we are getting, and I couldn't be more excited for it. Most of what G4 and TCM air is not in HD, and honestly I have largely outgrown G4; still, I would enjoy having both in HD. And while I would love to watch Doctor Who in HD, I certainly am not going to switch back to dish for one channel.

Personally, I couldn't be happier with D* right now and I can't wait to see what new HD channels they add to their lineup.

...anything to say about the post or just me personally? By the way, discussions like this are the reason why forums like this exist. If you don't like it or can't handle it...my advice would be to avoid places like this.

I made a point. Either respond to it or ignore it. By making snide remarks rather than attempting to prove me wrong...you just reinforce the belief that I may be right and that you just don't like it.

I just wish Direct would spend a little more available bandwidth on national channels available in HD. I realize these channels cost more than the mostly profit cinema ppv channels.. But to get the best base of subscribers you need to provide channels in HD that are available in popular service packages. NOT just PPV.
The Dish part time RSN's are a joke. Not only do they just do games they only do 1/3 of the games in HD.
As far as receivers go, Dish is way behind DirectTV believe me, I have had both. I just came from 2-722's and Dish does not even compare in what you can do with the Direct HR receivers.
I stream music and movies every day from my PC with media share to my home surround sound system and watch recorded programs in the bedroom on a standard HD receiver with MRV. Directtv just needs to provide all the available HD channels and stay away from wasting bandwidth on PPVs.

The fact of the matter is AMC HD was the #2 most requested channel in Sixto's poll, obviously proving it has a huge following. Breaking Bad and Mad Men have both won dozens of awards. Yes we all know you're a OAR/film preservationist snob but you've even admitted you subscribe to HBO for the original shows - the same reason people watch AMC! I agree that watching a movie on basic cable is ridiculous but some people can't afford premiums.

DirecTV uses most of their PPV channels for extra "game only" sports channels during the peak of NFL season. If it were not for the high number of PPV channels DirecTV would have to take 24/7 networks off the air in order to cover all the games.

There is a method to their madness. :)

Won't this end with D12 though? They've stated they're adding more PPV channels...
