    Yes they will both work.
The HD will not show anything except what is on the 101 satellite and that is all SD programming.

I bought my first HR24. Why? Because researching these forums, people at that time were not guaranteed to get one when ordered from D*. I wanted that guarantee. I was aware of the risk, and sadly in the end it shows a leased receiver on my account. With that said, since it shows as a leased receiver, hopefully if anything starts to go wrong with my beloved HR, I will get a replacement.

Where did you "buy" it? If it was from Amazon, SolidSignal, Weaknees, or anywhere like that then you didn't really buy it, you just paid the up front lease fee.

If you paid $199 or less then you also most likely didn't "buy" it, you just paid the standard lease fee.

I went the ebay route. You are 100% right, I paid for it, $150. I knew buying it wasn't owning it in D* eyes at the time too, D* does not sell receivers, they lease only. I did my homework and knew the facts. But I really wanted this specific model, spent a few $$$ and am a very satisfied customer.

The CSR asked too during activation, when entering the RID, she said this is a leased unit, where did I get it? I explained how I really wanted this model and where I bought it. No grief, activation went ok, I'm watching it right now.

I do miss the old way, remember you could go to best buy, buy the receiver and dish! My first was an RCA DSS back in 94...might have been from Radio Shack. I still have that reciever and original box. Sentimental reasons I guess...

To go a step further, the other risk I was fully aware of, and the CSR mentioned it too, if I ever cancel my D* service (never!), the receiver will have to be returned or fees are possible. There is also the 2 year commitment to think of when activating. Again, pays to do your homework before purchasing a receiver. If it's no big deal, just order from D*.

Are you saying I am losing my channels because I have a old receiver?

Both my receivers started dropping channels. They were D10.
I called them and told them what was happening and the CSR said they were old and dying and she sent me new ones, D11.
This was about 4 to 5 years ago because I upgraded to HD a little over 3 years ago.

If I am not mistaken they are in the process of getting rid of the D10 receivers.
I know that you can not buy them nor the D11 at Solid Signal.
