After holding off for a long time, I finally retired my HR10-250 TiVo. I was pretty apprehensive about the switch, but my fears subsided after lurking here for some time. Just a few hours down the road here I have to say that I really like the HR21-700. Its features seem to exceed the HR10-250 by a mile. I'm sure I'll be fumbling a little with the new menus, but so far, it is great.

I did start out by purchasing an Antec MX-1 and a 750GB Western Digital drive. I have to thank the users of this forum for leading me to this addition. It worked right from the beginning.

All in all, the whole installation and the programming of my MX-850 remote was seamless. I'm just hoping that I don't wind up posting any future problems. Thank you all for the help I received on this forum.

Installed two HR21-700s at work today both upgraded software before I could run guided setup, after download and reboot they went through the guided setup normally.

Don't know if it was software or hardware improvements that I noticed but these new units really run smooth. So much better that I know whats going to be under the tree for Christmas!! :)

I might have spoken too soon. After a few hours I have some pixelation problems. I will investigate.

Welcome to the team! Hopefully the pixelation was just weather related or some temporary problem at the broadcast end.

I went from pixelation to screen freezes to total system lockup with a gray screen. I am unable to reboot this box with the red button or by removing power. It gets just part way through the startup process and freezes again. Service call scheduled for the morning.

Some people have said you have to try unplugging the power for 15 minutes. Have you tried that?

Sorry to here you are having problems. My second HR21 will be a week old tomorrow and working great. I had problems with my first one with the video outputs. I thought they would just ship me a refurbished replacement, but DirecTV wanted to do a service call. The service tech replaced the HR21 with a new unit, without any questions, and all has been good since. :D

Remove the external drive and use just the HR21 for a few weeks.

When a tech. comes out he'll probably blame the external drive.

No difference with the external drive disconnected. Totally inop.
