Recently, the message "We are pleased to inform you that you will soon be able to view this channel using a single satellite dish." appeared on local channels that are transmitted on the 61.5 satellite, which I don't have. Does this mean that the local channels will be taken off 61.5 and moved to another satellite?

That's what it would appear. The NYC market is IIRC a split-locals market.

I wonder if they have a dish that looks at three satellites like the dish 1000 but for the east coast? Maybe a tweener slot between the 110 and the 119slots?

They will be moved to new spot beams on 110 for the most part.

Some second dish locals on 61.5 and 148 have moved to 129 where the 110 spot beams don't have good coverage

Does anyone else see this in other markets beside NY?

BFG - I'd read those moves to 129° as temporary.

Confirmation: We see the same message for customers in the Washington, DC 2-dish must-carry locals DMA as well.

Probably in every market with 2nd dish locals - only visible to customers without their 2nd dish. Looks like they replaced the slide on "9950" that once offered a free dish to get the extra channels.

I have that message on the screen also in Philly area. I don't have the 2nd dish to get all the local channels. Does this mean we will need another type of dish, or will the one we have now bring in all the channels? The dish is actually in the Philly area where my folks live.

Most likely the channels will just magically appear without a new dish.

It is starting to sound like patience will be my friend. If I am assuming correctly, the San Francisco locals in HD will more than likely be on a spot beam from 110 so I will not need a dish pointing at 129. I currently have a second dish pointing at 148 for the few off-brand locals and CBS HD west out of LA.

If I am correct in my assumptions, I will probably be able to go back to a one dish solution, (Dish500) if I find that nothing I watch is still on 148.

I hope this will all come true. Any thoughts on this from the gallery?

    Brian

PS. I know the defination of assume.;)

I'd expect SF to be on 129 not 110. makes more sense to have the more easterly signals on 110 than 129 and the westerly ones on 129 than 110. (less atmosphere to have to look thru) likely you'd want a single dish 1000 otion not the 500 only or your current 500/300 unless just wanted to repoint the 300.

If San Fransisco were moving to 129° and not 110° the message wouldn't be "We are pleased to inform you that you will soon be able to view this channel using a single satellite dish." It would be a message to call E* for a Dish1000.

The extra SF locals are already on 129° - there is no 'soon' about it. If that is their final resting place E* would be out selling D1000s not giving people a 'soon' message.

E10 has nice spotbeams aimed at California --- Three beams with a total of nine spot transponders blanket the state replacing the current three spot transponders on E8. It is foolish to think that the extra capacity on E10 would not be used to bring SD locals in off the wings and that E* would install D1000s for SD customers. The cheap route is to use the spotbeams on E10.

Why are SF extra locals mirrored on 129°? They are there for HD customers ... If they were not there E* would have to support D1000 and 148° for all of their customers in SF. With the temporary mirrors they only have to support 148° for those who need it for internationals.

Anybody have an idea on when these channels will switch over and go off of 61.5?

Was there some law that congresss passed like Shrivra or Shrevra (forgot the name)
That said all Locals must now be form ONE dish at some date?

Would this mean all of us requiring dishes at 61.5 and 148 to get our PBS stations and smaller Local will be getting DIsh 1000's for Free soon?

Anyone know the dates and real details on the ruling?

Without searching this forum for the many times it has been mentioned? :D

The wing locals will be moving to 110 and 119 - no new dish required - so no free Dish1000's (unless E* doesn't get permission to use E10 in time).
