NEW TOS effective 6-24-2013 states the following:

"If you use an Authorized Application on a device that does not have GPS- based location functionality, or such functionality is disabled"

I did not realize that they had GPS built in any equipment.

    Can anyone enlighten me?

Only the 3G/LTE ipads have GPS. The WiFi versions just use the WiFi networks IP address to estimate their location.

DirecTV uses this to follow their blackout rules and stuff like that. If you are using a device with a GPS or IP address located outside the US you won't get to watch any programming. If you are outside your local market sporting events get blacked out, stuff like that.
