If it's any think like the cell phone companies you should be able to get out of that for free as DISH is the one who dropped channels.

Also You get CSN Chicago HD 24/7 + all CSN Chicago + HD games on D*.

D* also has My50 HD and WCIU HD as well.

I don't think it is that simple . Don't you still need a broker ? How easy is it to self install a HD canadian dish in Florida or any other state?

yes you d need a broker unless you know someone in canada. these guys are easy to find and charge 50-75 bucks.
The install is easy. I have done it twice (previous and current house), I had ZERO experience the first time I did it but i took my time and it went well.
The funny thing is in my previous house: I had Dish and Starchoice - I never lost the signal on Starchoice which i installed myself, whether it was snowing or raining. In my current house: Directv and Shaw Direct. Same thing I never lost the signal on Shaw Direct (so far - only installed two weeks ago) despite lots of rain last two weeks.. I can't say the same about directv where once in a while i see distortion.

Financially it's not bad since $20/mo gives me all Habs games in HD on RDS (Hab fan here!!!), HNIC in HD and two more stations of CBSHD and FOXHD, and another Canadian channel with HD football hence giving me more NFL games to chose from on Sunday afternoon. Last Sunday at 1pm I had 5 HD football games on my canadian dish... almost feels like NFL sunday tickets.
During the off season, I can just put the account on hold and not pay anything (with Shaw: no cost up to 6month on hold)

Yeah, it was blacked out here in metro Atlanta. There was no local telecast of any of the west coast games this week. The reason I mention Dish/Fox is because on the official Thrashers message board, a poster has stated that is the reason Thrashers games are blacked out on D* and Comcast. The thing is that I was able to watch Thrashers-Kings on Tuesday night via CI, but not the last 2 games. It's just weird.

Then again, the Thrashers may not have granted waivers for these games to be televised locally on CI which makes no sense. As I said in years past they ranted waivers to allow non-televised games to be shown locally via CI. This is a franchise that desperately needs to grow its fan base. You would think they would allow these games to be shown. Or better yet, televise these games on the RSN. But this is the Atlanta Thrashers, easily the worst organization in the NHL. This ownership group has done a great job of eroding the fan base here, which is why the Thrashers are always mentioned as a team likely to move to Winnipeg, Hamilton, or Quebec City. If they are behind the games being blacked out, then screw them.

    Here's the response I received from D*

Unbelievable, but this does not surprise me. As I mentioned before, the Thrashers are the worst organization in the NHL.

I know much of the discussion here has been about HD access but in one area DirecTV is behind the competition and is in the provision of dual feeds.

As a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs I want to be able to access their broadcasts. This week the Leafs are playing two home games and no home feeds are available. Tonight's game against the Islanders is being shown on Leafs TV and both Dish Network and the InDemand cable service have the LeafsTV feed. So why isn't DirecTV showning what the competition are?

Different providers have different contracts with the NHL. Kind of like why we see many games in HD, that DISH and cable don't carry.

I guess that FSSouth doesn't want anyone on dish to receive any of the Thrashers game even if they have the CI package. I don't know why FS would do this (or the NHL), all it does is alienate fans with CI. Absolutely ridiculous.

That may be true, but it doesn't answer the question, why?

Ironically, while Leafs fans will see more HD feeds of their team than fans of any other Canadian teams, [assuming DirecTV picks up all the RogersSportsnet games], there will be less home team SD broadcasts than other Canadian Teams except for Montreal.

I noticed that the Tuesday night schedule online doesn't have some games listed for that night and the guide on the TV is messed up too for that night?

I have just fired off an e-mail to FoxSportsSouth voicing my concerns.

So AMike, I was getting concerned that since you were having trouble viewing the Thrashers last week on Center Ice when SportSouth wasn't televising the game locally that I sent an email to the Canes to make sure it wasn't happening to me this year.

Sure enough, it seems if your FSN is in the dispute with Dish, every provider will be penalized and FSN won't lift the blackout restrictions. This makes NO since and it's bogus that FOX is punishing Directv (and OnDemand) viewers when it's them and Dish that are having the problem!?

Here's a message I got back from the Canes about the matter:

Unfortunately for us, there are a handful of games for both of our teams that are impacted by this since our RSNs do not televise every game or we don't get national coverage on Versus.

I am still waiting to hear back from FSN, but I doubt that is going to occur.

Its probably related to contracts and cost. They have a contract with Rogers, but maybe not with Leafs TV. On a positive note, at least they are doing it during the free preview. So there shouldn't be any talk of hyping up the coverage during this period.

I know you don't like to hear this, but honestly if Canadian feeds were that important to me, I would be dropping DIRECTV and adding a Canadian provider.

Canadian feeds are important but not important enough for me to invest in a something that is not exactly legal. I know there's lots of ways around it but I'm not comfortable with bending the law.

Sure don't want the Canadian mounted police riding up to your door step! I understand... I wouldn't want to do it either, unless it was 100% legit. I could have "moved" to Buffalo last year to get MSG HD feed of my Sabres, but didn't do it.

tuesday is a versus exclusive night so that is why there are no early games on centre ice.

as for the dual feed issue, nowhere does it say that you get every game with both feeds. be happy that you get dual fees with the rsn's that directtv carries.

you are never going to get hd feeds of every game, the demand for the package isnt there to justify the cost of purchasing each feed from canada. enjoy what you have,, the package is the best out there.
