Sorry, but you have it wrong. That word ALWAYS follows the word Potvin. It's like i before e... You should teach your child correct grammar.

    You mean "1980 ... 1981 ... 1982 ... 1983" Oh, forgot to include that one. :D

P.S. This is a great example of what we were talking about. I happen to think that Tom Renny is one of the classiest and most qualified individuals in the league, but I'll still rip the Rangers every chance I get. That's hockey.

Hey Mike22NYR, did Angie (who said she works for the President of Direct TV) ever call you back regarding the NHLCI issues? Thanks

Perhaps the issue of disparity between the Dish and DirecTV offerings of NHL Center Ice is a problem at the NHL's end. As a result I just used the NHL's crappy website to send this email
    --------------------------------------------------------------
I have been an NHL Center Ice Subscriber for five seasons now with DirecTV.

In comparing the offerings of NHL Center Ice on the Dish Network and DirecTV I note that Dish routinely offers both the home and away feeds of games which DirecTV does not do and they also offer the pre and post game shows of Hockey Night In Canada.

My question is this. Is their an intended disparity between the two satellite services that is governed by the contract with the NHL or is the difference simple a decision made by DirecTV to offer less service?

I have been trying very hard to get an answer on this out of DirecTV and they will not answer my question so I would be very grateful if you would help me.

    Thank you

    Lancaster,...
Great letter to D*, Peter!! I have also been pressing D* daily via email and on the phone for real answers instead of the normal canned responses. I, too, think D* is ignoring their NHL Center Ice customers by offering virtually no HD hockey via the NHL CI package, cutting off games before they are actually over, and offering less than what E* offers (such as home/away feeds) for the same price.

I have not been able to get a real answer, either. I have been told that I'd be contacted within 48 hours by D* to address my concerns, yet I've never been called. Not sure who's dropping the ball here.

I would hope D* is getting a lot of flack from its NHL CI customers due to these issues, and I believe we need to continue to press D* on this matter. Doing so will let D* that issues do exist and that their customers are mad and expect more.

The posting above that NHL Network is coming to D* and E* is encouraging, but I don't see anything else other places to confirm this report. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

C'mon guys, if you think we deserve more from D* and their NHL Center Ice package, keep pressing D* for answers and let them know how you feel.

An added note... I just discovered that if I were a Comcast subscriber I would be getting the Hockey Night in Canada pre game show at 6:30 eastern each Saturday and I would be getting After Hours as well.

What this suggests to me is that DirecTV is either ignorant of what is out there or b] just doesn't care. I'm hoping that it is the former which means it might be fixed. If it is the latter we might as well all start looking for a different way of watching hockey next season. [As a long time subscriber I'm committed to the NHL CI package this year because you can't cancel after the season starts.]

I just cheked the D* website to see what they had on for this Saturdays' CI package... They have the HNIC double header on the same channel! Way to go D* (albeit a little late) and thanks to those who bothered to wait on hold for several minutes if not hours only to get an idiot who is lost.

Yes at least there is hope for next Saturday. Mind you, no pre or post game show and there are no assurances that they still wont pull the plug between games.

Very true, however, D* problems with the HNIC in the past USUALLY come from seperating the two games. We'll see come saturday. Of course everything that went wrong I said in my email to D*. Of course I was given some type of canned response that made no sense.

    Just sent another e-mail.

"I am concerned about the amount of HD programming available to Center Ice subscribers.

I signed up back with Direct TV due to all the new HD programming that was to be added. I found out that your competitor Dish is offering most of their Center Ice games in HD as well as both home and away feed for the same games.

Please tell me that Directv will also be doing the same thing. I just signed up for the Center Ice package and found out that Direct TV is not offering what Dish is for this sports package.

Dish also makes the Hockey Night In Canada pre game show available as well. I don't understand why Directv don't get on the ball and at least offer the same as Dish does on the Center Ice package."

What will happen when D* messes up NBA Full Court? I expect them to have the exact same problems.

OK, so tonight NHL Center Ice has another issue with the "HD broadcast" problem:

The Capitals @ Islanders game is supposed to be on Channel 764.

When I tune to 764, I receive 721 not purchased. I checked the guide, and the game is on RSN channel 629 being broadcast in HD. I do not receive that RSN, so I am not able to watch the game.

I've had NHL Center Ice on D* for 4 or 5 years, and I have NEVER had a blackout issue with RSN's and out of market games. The only games that would be blacked out are Florida Panther games (which were carried on the local RSN) or possibly a game that is being carried on Versus/ESPN/NBC, because it is being shown nationally. In either of those cases, if I couldn't watch the game on Center Ice, there was an alternate channel available to me to watch the game.

Thankfully, I'm not a Caps or Isles fan, but it's only a matter of time before it happens to my Penguins. D* needs to resolve this soon. Sending my email to voice my displeasure. :(

It's a replay of today's game. They are usually blacked out out of market.
