I remember reading some place recently that additional equipment will have to be added to DirecTV, to except the Canadian HD feeds from Rogers Sports Net, Leafs TV and some of the other Canadian networks that broadcast in HD.

I haven't seen this posted yet. There was talk about changing the channel assignments for NBALP and NHLCI to allow for more games to be carried, and it appears it will happen 12/5. I was looking ahead to the schedule, and starting that day the NHLCI channels appear to start at 769 and go at least as high as 781 and maybe higher. We will see if this helps to sort out the problems people are reporting.

A heads up for tonights Stars vs Pens game. The NHL Network is showing this game nationally so anyone outside of the Pittsburgh & Dallas DMA will have to watch the game on 215.
It is not part of NHLCI. ...628 & 628-1 should be blacked out as well.
The potential good news is that FSNP is broadcasting the game in HD & could be the broadcast picked up by the NHL Network.
I know this is not listed as an HD game on the HD Sports Guide but it is listed on the Pens website as an HD broadcast.

So am I just naive, because I thought that due to all the newly added HD RSNs we would see HD games (true HD as well as upconverted SD) all the time now? Apparently that's not so.

The game has to be broadcasted in HD for DirecTV to be able to provide it with their Center Ice offering. These websites list the games that are being broadcasted in HD:

    http://www.hdsportsguide.com

    http://www.sportstvinsider.com

or check the NHL's homepage. There's been a few screwups along the way, but for the most part the games being broadcasted in HD and are on a CONUS RSN have been available.

We will have to see what is what tonight.

The guide on my HR20 says that Caps @ Hurricanes and Blues @ Wild are in HD but HDsportsguide doesn't list either game.

The Stars @ Pens game is not listed as HD on either 215 or 628-1.

It is fine with me if they put SD games uprezzed (by the RSNs, not by DirecTV) on the HD channels as long as they are marked correctly.

Caps/Hurricanses is listed in the guide as HD on ch. 765-1. But it's the dreaded 727 message. How can Directv be so $%%$ incompetent?

Getting it also. This is absurd. I am disgusted to keep having to call D* and getting CSRs who are clueless and have no idea what I'm talking about.
The game isn't blacked out because of a sellout, it's not on ESPN, it's not on because ; blah blah blah; it's not on because D* has it's head up its ...  :bang

Anyone having any luck getting the HD feeds for the Blues @ Wild game on ch. 94?

I'm getting Msg. 727 on anything but the SD feed on FSN North (641) and NHL CI 766. However, there are feeds in HD on 94 and 767-1 - both of which I'm getting Msg. 727.

This makes me very unhappy that I paid for the C.I. package...

    Results:

Caps at Hurricanes is SD uprezzed by Comcast Sportsnet, so it is mislabelled.

Stars at Pens is HD (but mislabelled on both 215 and 628-1 as SD.

Blues at Wild is in HD on FSN MW (767-1 and 647-1). Properly labelled as HD.

You are in Minnesota. The 94 and 767-1 feeds are St Louis feeds. How close to St Paul?

Edit: duh, saw Minneapolis. You are blacked out from the out of market feed.

On the bright side, the Blues / Wild game is in HD and on in Cincinnati. :)

The logic of making sure all this stuff works as its supposed to isn't rocket science, but the implementation of it sure can be. With all of the changes that have been made to D*'s network and the addition of all of the new channels in such a short amount of time, issues such as this will occur. In my opinion, as long as there is continual forward progress, I am willing to be patient.

Of course, this is coming from a new D* customer who couldn't get Versus and had many NHLCI games blacked out by Time Warner in Cincinnati, not to mention no dual feeds. I'm thrilled to death to get dual feeds, Versus, the NHL Network, and all of the HD that I've been seeing over the last 2 months, and I still see continual improvement of the offerings.

It will get better folks. Let's keep D* in formed, but try to be patient. :)

Pretty close. Bloomington, actually. Suburb just south of Mpls.

Again, the feed on the 90's is usually available to us. Makes me kinda mad that it's listed but blocked.

Yeah, saw that after I posted. You are not going to get the out of market feed for a local game.

Just to be clear... The feed on 94 is from St. Louis?

Also, it seems really dumb that I can't get the out-of-market feed when I've paid for C.I. The purpose of the program is that I can watch any team. Maybe I'm just a little clueless about the in-market/out-of-market rules (this issue hasn't come up much so far this season for me), but I would think that my C.I. subscription fee covers such things. In any event, it's my opinion that it should.

Usually, I'm pretty passive when it comes to contractual obligations between D* and the individual networks. But this feels really dumb if I'm in the wrong.

Yes, the feed on 94 is from St Louis. There is no Minnesota HD feed according to NHL.com.

Subscriptions like CI are primarily for folks who are out of market of their favorite team (like if you lived in Minny and still followed the Stars after they moved away) or those who want to watch tons of the sport no matter who the team.

Local teams are covered by local broadcasts. The local team can allow out of market coverage of their own team for the NHL but it is unusual. The other sports (MLB and NBA) do not allow it at all.

    Tony,

Are you getting the Stars/Pens game in HD?? NHL is blacked out for me since FSNSW is my local RSN, it's not inHD on 643. I'll need to b*tch at FSN if it is in HD.
