ILS just finished Nimiq 5 launch thru 1st Breeze -M upper stage burn.

    2 Interesting facts:

    1) All capacity to go to Echostar AND operations planned to start in 3 WEEKS.

    2) NEXT launch is W-7 mid november. Final confirmation that D-12 is pushed bach till no sooner than mid december!:(:(:(

Any thoughts on how Dish's utilization of all 32 transponders of NIMIQ 5 at 72.7 will affect the phase out of Directv LIL's on 72.5.
I guess the FCC filings of the next few weeks may answer that too.

Dish's can't utilize all 32 transponders until given permission from the Canadian version of the FCC. And the Canadian version of the FCC won't anger DIRECTV who has been mutually very helpful to both Canada and DIRECTV.

So when Dish does get all 32 transponders, it will because DIRECTV has vacated all the leased transponders. :)

I presume DIRECTV will free up transponders in groups and release them to Canada to lease them to Dish.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Telesat (the operator of the Satellite) with Dish and Bell TV (Canada) have announce an agreement that will allow dish access to all 32 transponders. I don't expect that Canada's version of the FCC will have any objection.

Well, don't forget Dish is also a very good customer of the Canadians. Ciel-2 at 129, Anik F3 at 118.7, and and the Dish space at 72.7 all come from the Canadians. DirecTV has only has 2 dealings I'm aware of, half the 72.5 space for a couple years, and leasing the Canadians a retired sat. There doesn't seem to be much in the way future dealings with Canada for DirecTV, whereas Dish has leases for more than the next decade. So I'm not as positive DirecTV holds all the cards.

The Canadian regulators could care less about DirecTV. Their responsibility is to Canadians. They will make sure Canadian interests are met. What the licensee does outside of Canada is not their concern (as long as Canadian needs are met).

DirecTV's deal with the licensee is the key for them vacating the space.

Does anyone know or have an 'angle' table for this new SAT? Or is it one of those things where we will know when it 'gets' there?

I'm hoping it has a 'steep' angle so that those of us here in SF or Canada don't need to point the arms of our dishes at the ground....

Is there any programing that is 'projected' that would be different than what is beaming through 110, 119 and 129? or is it just a mirror? Seems to me some new functionality and programming could easily come across such a new platform. (its a fourth orbital SAT for me using a DPP44). I have an extra dish that was pointed at 148 (obvously that is now fruitless ... actually it was when it was working too)...... and can now aim at the new 72.7?

    Thanks.

    :)

72.7 Nimiq 5 will only be used for those east of the Mississippi, so those in California and the rest of west coast won't be using this bird. This satellite will be for Dish's Eastern arc, still not known what spotbeams it will have until it's fully tested.

Nimiq 5 is a CONUS only satellite, it has no spotbeam capability.

    That was quick.

The TLE model places it within two degrees of home and moving pretty good.

provided anybody wasn't too overzealous with the atari controllers red button, nimiq5 should be parked at 72.7w by now.
