I just saw 10 of them at my local best buy. I was shocked that they were ther, and I believe they are $199. Might be after rebate or something, i never checked close, but they were there.

Hey Earl....Do you think I have a chance of getting an R-15 from them while I wait for my HR20? Or do you think I should try to find an HR20 in a retail store.

At this point I have been without HD for this long I can wait another month (or mork - eek) but it's not having a DVR in the livingroom that is drving us mad.

I'm told they will have more stock the week of October 23rd. My install has been rescheduled twice because of the shortage which they claim was due to greater than expected demand.

I just called Direc Tech to see if they got anymore in and the answer was no. They said check back at the end of the week which is not a good sign at all in my opinion

I will try to squeeze an R15 out of D* while I wait.

You can "try", and I am sure they would set you up with one.

Well I just got off of the phone with Retention and if they send me an R15 while I wait for the HR20 it will force me to reup for two years. That was what I wanted to avoid while I waited to see how long it will take to actually get the HR20.

If in fact the install that I have scheduled for Friday is cancelled or pushed back more than a few weeks then I will have no choice but to move onto either cable or DISH.

This is a move I was hoping to avoid.

    Ugh!

I bought the AT9 Dish online and bought the HR20 at a local store and installed everything myself. I'm sure glad I avoided waiting around all day for the hack installer to come out, or getting a call to say they didn't have something in stock.

    So far everything works great.

I talked to Retention about getting the HR20 myself and they said that would be ok however I have been unable to locate an HR20 in any of the retail stores by me. I am pretty sure the installer has the disjhes so all I need is the HR20.

    :(

Strangely enough to me, I was in Best Buy Sunday the 15th and they had them in stock. Could it be they (BB) have priority in getting stock over the installers and warranty replacements?

    Earl,

what do you recommend for those of us who are stuck waiting for an hr20 to show up but it's not happening. Two install cancellations and now on hold. Do we remain patient or call up DirecTv to see if they can do anything?

    Hey guys,
I just joined the forum and I'm grateful to have found it. Thanks for all the info you've provided in these discussions. I've just bought a new HDTV and am waiting on a hardware install for the HR-20 and AT9. The earliest I could get was 11/5.

    glennb,
I've done a couple of my own installs over the years, but didn't do the last one when installation was included (this was when i finally got local channels which in Boise Idaho requires 2 dishes). Was the installation easy or complex?

Thanks for all the great info here guys.

    Mixer,
Did you ask about the AT-9 dish as well or do you already have it? D* told me they don't sell the dish through retailers, but I found it online at newegg.com. Is that where you got yours glennb?

I am pretty sure that the installer has the dish they are just waiting on the HR20s. If I were to get the HR20 somewhere then I would just call D* and have them change to just a Dish install.

ah ok. do you have any info on whether D* would then try to charge you for the dish only installation since you already have the HR-20? Or have they told you the installation would still be included in your total upgrade?

Value Electronics sells the AT/9 as do other online retailers I've seen. You'll see it eventually at Best Buy as such as well if not already.

I could swear I saw a few stacks of HR20's at my local Costco (Fountain Valley, CA) last week. They used to have a few stacks of HR10's but those sold quickly.

ConnectTV installed my HR20 on Saturday. The installer said they received 6 pallets of HR20's last week.

I bought the AT9 dish from a dealer on EBAY. It was brand new. All the plastic bags with the nuts&bolts were sealed, they weren't any marks on the dish or mounting bracket that would indicate it was used.

The installation wasn't to bad. I don't have a signal meter. I used the HR20 receiver signal strength meter. The installation instuctions say - DON'T USE THE CUSTOMERS RECEIVER AS A METHOD FOR ALIGNING THE SATELLITE DISH (or something similar) but at each adjustment step it says - set the signal meter to blah, blah, blah or alternately use the customers receiver with it set to etc...

OK so sounds like you can use the "up there point method" and be successful with adjustments to signal strength. i have a clear view and have gotten good signals easily before. thanks

Well I just called Direc Tech again and they STILL do not have any HR20s in stock. The chances of my install happening are very low now.
