x2, after the mpeg 2 conversion to mpeg 4 and the let down of the HDppv channels, everyone that was upset was pretty much called babies, and to wait for September because thats when D* said we'd be getting new national HD. September is already at the end of its 2nd week and no information on any new national HD is floating around. The excitement is really dropping off and once this month passes there won't be any more excuses left for defending D*. :nono:

Is there another service you're considering that has more HD channels and/or the channels you're looking for in HD? If so, why are you waiting with DirecTV? Go get em, partner! If not, why are we having this discussion?

Put your $$ where your fingers are and switch.

You're paying for what you receive now. Paying for what you hope will come at some future date is gambling.

People need to quit bitching so much. The fall TV season is starting and you can't find anything to watch in HD to get you by until more channels are added? I remember posting in the Dish threads and i use to complain about the lack of HD compared to DirectTV. Back then, there was a BIG difference in the amount of HD channels the 2 companies had. Its pretty equal now though. Now having Direct TV, I am happy with what i got, and i know they'll come out with more soon but i won't complain about it compared to what i use to have. We have it good here guys!! I think some of you need to get out more often! Maybe find a hobby, girlfrie...., hobby or something!

What I find a bit disappointing is that we're hearing this negotations line and more would be coming soon (thought I was on a Dish thread for a moment ;) ). When D10 went live boom we had a bunch of HD. D* knew it was coming and even announced a large number of channels that would launch 9 months earlier IIRC. So now we have D11 which took years of planning to get up there so it's not like it was a surprise to D*. Why weren't negotations going on and concluded durning that time so when D11 went operational they could add those channels? Is Liberty playing hardball with content providers and this will be a coming trend where new channel launches are delayed due to negotations, ala Charlie?

I know D11 has a large number of national HD channels on it now, just look at Sixto's thread about the what transponders carry what and there are some transponders that have only 4 vs. the normal 5 channels on them so there is room even without removing any HD PPV channels. So let's wrap up these negotations and give is something.

It's pretty clear that D* is only concerned with HD channel counts and not that actual content. Since they count the HD PPV's already I'll be shocked if they remove more than say 1 or 2 for regular HD channels.

We have been paying the same rate for a long time. So anything now is above and beyond unless they raise prices again.

And now for the "don't defend the TV service you enjoy or else we'll attack you about it" people to chime in. Dear lord, can't we have an opinion that's favorable? :nono2:

Seriously, if you're not happy with what the company is doing and there's another company that can get you what you want, GO GET IT! We're talking about HD choices here - DirecTV arguably has the most. My point is that there's no one else that can get you what you want, DirecTV has not welshed on a promise, so sit down, shut up, and wait with the rest of us without whining.

    Thanks for making my point.

Funny how it's okay for you to whine about people you perceive as whiners. Nobody said you couldn't have an opinion. Nobody told you to shut up, yet you have no problems telling others to do so. Last time I checked, it's a discussion forum, and I don't have to shut up just because you don't agree with what I say.

    Then answer my questions.

    1) Which TV service has more HD?
    2) Has DirecTV welshed on a promise for more national HD "this fall"?

Which is what this thread is about, isn't it?

DirecTV is good, but but they are not perfect.

DirecTV does have more HD, but that includes a lot of PPVs, and regional sports networks. Fine all the providers play with the numbers in misleading ways. It doesn't mean I approve of such tactics. It doesn't excuse DirecTV from not having agreements with networks ready for the start up of D11. It's been up for months.

Nobody said DirecTV "welshed" on anything. Really stop letting your emotions run your fingers at the keyboard, and start reading posts more carefully before you respond.

No, the thread is No new National HD on D-11 Again, read more carefully.

And again, just because I don't mindlessly agree with everything DirecTV does, doesn't mean I should switch, or that I shouldn't express my opinion just because it upsets you.

If you have can talk to Mercer can you get him to let you know when D12 will be launched and by what launch company since nobody's been able to find out that information yet. It would be nice to know are we talking about 1st QTR 2009 or 12/31/2009.

    Teays...
At the end of they day, there are channels they should have up because there SHOULD be carriage agreements in place as part of a larger agreement.

    1) The HBO/MAX suite. Can you really tell me that there needs to be a separate contract for HBO2HD? OK, maybe there will be a separate contract, but does it require months of negotiation?

    2) The EncoreHD channels. If you can't hammer out an agreement here, you are not really trying. Also, 1 applies.

    3) ESPNUHD. DirecTV managed to get ESPNNews up on a crowded D10, why can't they get this channel up on a wide open D11. 1 applies again.

    4) FoxNews HD. If the rumors of this channel not being 100% ready are not true, then whoever negotiated the sale of D* to Liberty from Newscorp should be fired for not having this agreement in place before handing over the keys.

Yet they seem to manage to get PPVHD up from one of the most anal organizations in existence, the MPAA. And are even allowed to send it out over component connections.

Maybe they are concentrating on HDLIL. They did announce some markets well over a year ago that they didn't get to. But as someone else posted, once the TV season starts in a couple of weeks, I won't really care.
