    That was my point right there. The emphasis was to get the HD games on ASAP. I would of just dealt with all the rest later. I was saying if he would of just added SuperFan online real fast and reauthorized his cards he could of called later on and had a much better sunday. To each their own.

    Your spot on. The first day of the second week after the freeview of the start of any speciality sports package is always a mess.

    From what I've seen a lot of new customers that signed up for the NFLST promo and got HD were surprised again when they found out they needed superfan to get all the games in HD. I'd put nearly all the blame on the sales agents for not making that clear at the time they signed the customer up.

    FYI that DirecTV was twittering this problem yesterday giving updates directly from the "mothership". They had admitted there was a problem and gave progress updates about when it was to be fixed.

    My 2 cents on DTVST yesterday...
    I 've been with DTV since 1996, have had ST since then, have had SF for 3 seasons. I was one of those who did not get the HD channels. When I did finally get to talk to a CSR(after trying for over 2hrs) she told me SF was not on my account. 2 weeks ago when checking my account it WAS there! Something happened at the DTV end that removed it. My CSR was very helpful and indicated there was some sort of "system problem" at their end yesterday hence the long waits for CSRs, calls being dropped,busy signals and extremely long load times on their website. So it did not just affect new subs. She had to load SF back on to the account so the only way I could get my problem resolved was by speaking with someone. Also I do not normally look to see if I get the HD channels on Sunday AM since for 13 years all the channels have worked for me. Again my CSR was very polite and appologetic.
    One more comment, after trying and failing to get to speak to someone, the way I got answered was to say"CANCEL" at the first prompt. Wish I would have tried that 2hrs previously!

    I was lucky. My DVRs received ST and SF Fine. My H20s had different problems. One with no SF and one with no ST or SF.

    I'll repeat a suggestion I made yesterday because I've read the DTV monitors this site and I only seem to get programmed response from customer service like the email response to me reporting the problem at 11PM yesterday that didn't say "we experienced a problem and it was resolved at 4:15PM. Please contact us if we didn't fix it for you........." Instead it said please try to fix this yourself by refreshing......

    Something we know was't working so well.

    I've been responsible for tech support for my company for 25 plus years and no matter how well we think we've done we're always told we could have communicated better during an outage.

    When you have a problem please communicate with those affected. It looks like the Tweets were pretty good but since most people don't look at DBSTalk and even less look at Twitter I bet most people didn't know what was happening.

    It wasn't a deal of people getting stuff for free last week and assuming they had it. I've had ST for 12 years and SF from day one of that. It appears it might be a failed programming change...Stuff Happens.

    - Put a message on the automated phone routing
    - Put a message on the website

    It might help your PBX and website from being overwhelmed by customers calling.

    despite what your marketing folks might think you'll get better pub for letting customers know what's going on.

    Mistakes happen. I deal with them everyday in tech support. I even make one or two myself.

    Just let everyone know what's going on

    Man, some of you guys are truly jerks. I can imagine you'd be the first to come on here b!tching and crying when something went wrong, too.

    It's amazing that some of you think it's OK for D* to waste two hours of my Sunday morning. ... BEFORE THE SUNDAY TICKET THING! I'd already been trying to clear up a billing issue, being passed around and so on, having that idiotic voice system keep doing the wrong thing, making me angrier and angrier. Never mind that it was the third or fourth time in five days I was on the phone trying to make sure this same billing issue was resolved. Apparently some of you enjoy having your time wasted. But I digress.

    To the "if you don't like America, then lea..", errr ... "If you had such a horrible experience with D* they pay the early termination fee and leave" guy: Where did I say that I had a horrible experience. Overall it's been quite positive, especially compared to my experience with concast. I subscribe to upper-tier services and pay my bill on time. If D* didn't want me as a customer, they wouldn't charge me that early termination fee.

    For the guy saying he checked it out before the games started: That's awesome, dude. I don't know why I didn't think of that. It might have had something to do with he fact Sunday Ticket with Super Fan HAD WORKED THE PAST 18 WEEKS GOING BACK TO LAST SEASON. I guess I had fallen asleep at the switch. I'll be sure to be up at midnight Sunday morning to see when those channels switch on.

    And for the "add the Super Fan service again" guy: Are you out of your mind? I'm pretty sure I mentioned that the billing issue I was trying to resolve was Super Fan. I had been told in July it was half off, just make the first two payments. Before you make the "you should be happy you're getting something for nothing" post, keep in mind this is something the CSR offered. I kept up my end of the bargain, yet it was charged as usual on the third month. Luckily there were notes of the conversation, and though it required doing through level one CSRs all the way to retention (I didn't ask for them; there's a note on the statement with "retention" in parenthesis), the issue was resolved after a few hours and due dilligence on my part. Yet just a few hours after resolving this matter, I'm supposed to re-add the service and potentially go through the same problems again? :nono:

    For those of you who tried to help, I appreciate it.
    For those who act like they wouldn't be complaining under similar circumstances and only offered sarcasm, insults or some holier than thou statement proclaiming their greatness at D*: You are proud new owners of two internetz. Enjoy!

    Thats a little strong Gen Tso. Who are you referring to as a jerk? I dont come on here pretending to know everything either. I had the same problem last year and figured Id check on it early. Sorry it only took me 10 minutes and you two hours. I complain plenty to D* but Im not gonna act like an ******* to some poor CS agent. God I hate internet know-it-alls.

    No one said check at midnight, I simply said I personally have this problem every year (which sucks) so I checked it when NFL Gameday was supposed to be on figuring I would just watch that on the NFL ST channel since it automatically switches to Fox NFL Sunday at noon anyway. I wasn't being a jerk, I was making a suggestion of what you *could* do. Otherwise if it happens again, you'll be on the phone for an hour at game time.

    That article sounds a bit different then what the OP experienced. Its saying that old receivers with MPEG 2 will no longer work and have to be upgraded.

    I use an older receiver and get Sunday ticket just fine is sd. I have no idea what he is referring to in the newspaper article.

    Mpeg2 or 4 has nothing to do with it. In week one, DirecTv included the NFLST channels in the MPG (Master Program Guide) for legacy receivers. Due to the very limited memory in MPG receivers, several channels had to be "removed" from the MPG guide. Those channels were 162, 163, 165, 167,174, 177, 222, 223, 225, 226, 234, 196, 106, 201 & 603.

    Customers need to upgrade to APG (Advanced Program Guide) recievers to continue getting NFLST.

    I'd have to dig through some paperwork to find what the first APG reciever was, but you can pretty much bet any of the ancient boxes are MPG. It's also a safe bet that other sports packages will take this same route.

    Thank you for the information. Did not know that. I use an old H-10 directv receiver and it must use the APG guide data as I have had no problems getting ST.

    Only problem with that was I worked from 12am until 12:30 pm and hauled ass home to see the kickoff of the Redskins game so I turned the tv on at 1:01pm to a call 721 message.

    Why DIRECTV Fumbled the NFL In HD

    This article says that SD and HD have always been in mpeg2 until this past Sunday when SD remained in mpeg2, but the morning HD session was only mpeg4. They broadcast the afternoon HD session in both mpeg2 and mpeg4 to resolve the issue.

    To the best of my knowledge, Swanni is dead wrong here. Here's why:

    Take channel 710 as an example. If it's Mpeg4 only, it will only show up on Mpeg4 capable receivers. So if you have some ancient first gen receiver from 1995 you won't even have the channel in your guide. At most, you'll get a "Channel Not Available" message or something similar depending on the receiver. No black screens. No 721s.

    Also see above concerning MPG vs APG recievers.

    This is just more piss poor "journalism" by Swanni repeating stuff scraped from other blogs and "news" outlets.

    Unfortunately people with no knowledge will read what he says and not realise that he has no idea that he is not correct and attempting to jumble issues.

    It's obvious from the posts on sunday that it was just an authorization issue for the regular superfan package instead of the free one that was on for week 1. To fix the issue they turned on the free superfan again to get it resolved for the rest of the day. This is why people without superfan started posting that they were getting it.

    He's trying to combine the fact that the hd channels are now in mpeg 4 this year instead of mpeg 2 so people without mpeg 4 receivers cannot see the hd games this year.

    Why is journalism dying? Because the general populace is stupid enough to think people on the internet know what they're talking about when it's all rehashed, incomplete, garbage like Swanni likes to post.

    None. The 2008 season was the last for NFLST HD in Mpeg2.
