It's hard to say when... it could be months... but there will be a Nomad Android app.

Do you have a PC or iOS device you can use with Nomad now?
If you have either, Nomad is very cool.

I bought a galaxy nexus but this will be my last Android phone if Windows or IOS gets a 4g phone on Verizon. I can understand why companies don't support Android as much and it doesn't have to do with market share.

I enjoy the concept and customization that android gives me however the lack of structure makes it hard for companies to really get behind as well.

Send it back before the return period expires. Don't count on an app to be released. Soon to DirecTV is sometime years.

The Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be the beginning of the end of that issue. Android 4.0 will unify the platform finally. It is certainly a little fractured at the moment, and I can understand why that makes developing for it harder than the one OS, one phone, one tablet platform that is Apple.

    Exactly.

Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich - aka ICS) is the only go-forward platform for Android on all devices.

Some current devices (smart phones and tablets) will be upgraded (for free) to ICS...mostly Android 2.3 devices and newer.

So unlike in the past, as of 2012...Android apps and devices will share a single OS and related capabilities.

Still a shame that even with market share android is still taking a backseat to companies....

They will wake up some day and see the possibilities hopefully.

The new OS provides hardware acceleration and enables devs to go ballistic with many things GUI wise and animations. Animations is one thing commandfusion is beating around right now and might just disable them on pre 3.0 devices.

Just frustrating to see stuff for android placed second but that's part of being the early adapter. In time it'll change and companies will be doing them side by side or android first. Marketshare wins out in the end.

Except for those devices that are not upgraded.

Think of those as H20's. ;)

They'll be worked through, and out of, the system eventually. By mid 2013, virtually all Android devices will be on 4.x. The remaining devices won't represent a large enough pool to prevent anyone from developing for Android.

And then there are those "para-Android" devices like Kindle Fire. That's another whole thing.

That's not a android device imho. That's a Apple take on android in a sense. Not even an official Google product because they did so much to it, as you can see bc it doesn't come with the core android apps like marketplace and gmail and such.

Apple has left devices behind as well. It's not just android.

Apple has actually been worse than Google in that regard.

    In leaving devices behind?

I'm no fan of apple and i dunno if Id agree with that. Less if your strictly talking apple versus nexus devices only.
On bigger picture most of fragmentation in android is purely because of manufacturers and their skins and wanting to sell the next phone. Why spend time developing for last years device when you have a new one to sell this year?

I'm talking about how Apple abandoned every single Mac made before 2000 when they went to OS X, every Mac made before 2007 when they went to Intel processors, and they look to be doing it again with OS X Lion.

I suspect that between the upgrade transition of Android 2.3 devices (most of them) and newer to ICS, along with ICS delivered on anything 2012 going forward...most folks won't be negatively impacted in any way.

Google did a much better job with SDK's and education on Andriod 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) than anything they've done to date. 2012 should be an interesting year on mobile devices in general. I hope to get more of a pulse on that next week (CES).
