There is a pdf on Value Electronic's website on the page for the HR20 showing how to force the update.

Before you do this check you software version, if you have the latest version, why bother?

    1. Connect your TV with some other cable than HDMI or you will not see the download screen. You may need to change the format before you do this.

    2. Press the reset button located next to your card behind the right-hand door.

    3. At the first blue screen (DirecTV HDR or something) should be the first Blue Screen after reset, with your remote input 02468 that should start the download, that's it.

Thanks for the input. I'll call Directv to see if they have any suggestions.

Actually if the HR20 follows the pattern of the R15 some people have been very lucky in getting newer version of the software far before the rest. I've never been one of those but then again I don't do much of the trying to force a download. Also on the R15 downloading the same version again has helped some people fix issues that others don't seem to have.

Only explanation for that I can think of is maybe some corruption in the initial download.

What is Value Electronic's website address?

On your remote after you put 02468 on the remote what do you hit to execute the command. Do you hit enter or something else. I tried it with composite cable on another format. Saw the blue screen hit the code on remote than enter. I saw nothing different being done. Is there something that is seen to verify that you are forcing a download.

I am having problems with manual recording and deleting things from my To Do List.

There is nothing else to enter. 02468 is it once you see the first blue screen. Sometimes I have seen that a reset from the menu didn't work but a RED BUTTON RESET did. Do not press anything other than 02468.

I rebooted and pressed 02468, and my HR20 updated the software to 0xbe. I tested my guide speed from channel 200 to 300 and it has improved to 17 seconds. Still not as fast as others, but much better.

Good to hear david. I believe this is the first we've heard of the next firmware version being out in the wild. Anyone else update to 0xbe yet?

Do you notice any other improvements David?

Nothing obvious yet. I still notice the Dolby Digital "no sound" problem sometimes when I switch to a MPEG 4 channel.

checked my version this morning and I now have oxbe. It was downloaded at 2:16 this morning.

Now I did inquire on how to force an upgrade. Which I did at 5:30 P.M. yesterday. I didn't see anything happen, so I assume I did it wrong.

I don't know if this was a forced download that I did at 5:30 at night that didn't do it until 2:16 in the morning. Nothing different happened to my receiver after it rebooted up.

Is this being forced by subs or is DTV doing it and everyone will eventually get it?

This seemed to cure my manual recording problem.
