so you wouldn't get teh other programming from cox 4 just games .... I would take the same deal for CSN-Philly and CSN-NW in a minute .... wonder if this makes Comcast move at all in that direction?

This move by the FCC applies to all carriers... expect a (lengthy, probably) period of negotiation followed by all carriers having the relevant missing sports networks. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.

I think if I were in the same position as those in philadelphia or blazers territorry, I would just settle for having the pregame, actual game, and post game on an alt channel somewhere.

Too bad the philadelphia teams cant rebel and create an alternate philly sports network. Comcast owns the Flyers outright iirc.

I don't get it. I mean we have been getting the Cox 4/Padres games on D* for at least 2 seasons now. So is Cox finally acknowledging it?!

They have been available out of market via MLB Extra Innings. However, the games have not been available to in-market DirecTV customers, because Cox has not allowed it. Now, DirecTV will be able to negotiate a deal with Cox to carry the games for people in the San Diego area.

Just remember that deals still have to be struck with all these providers before games are actually on those providers.

Comcast also owns the 76ers, plus (I believe) a piece of the Phillies.

Also, isn't Cox's contract with the Padres up after this season? I remember reading elsewhere that the Padres were going to strike a deal with Fox Sports (West/Prime Ticket).

It will be up after the 2011 season. So yeah, Fox Sports Net (or another RSN) could be the new TV home of the Padres starting in 2012.

And if that's the case they'll probably work it like the old Turner South network where it would be only available in the clear around the SD area and blacked out out of market except during Padres games in EI.

Exactly. Plus 4SD does carry local college sports as well. So it would make sense to make it a part of the sports pack (for those outside the SD area).

Didn't they do that with Turner South in the beginning because they had non-sports programming as well as baseball. It was later turned and renamed.

Yep thats what Im talking about. With all of those non sports programs on Cox 4 it may be another Turner South situation for those outside of San Diego.

It'll be a local channel inside the DMA, RSN for everyone else. If its not they're going to get smacked again by the FCC because thats what Time Warner customers in the San Dieog market get.

Does this mean that Cox Sports Louisiana (LSU, Saints, Hornets, etc.) will hopefully be coming to DirecTv soon?

    Lancaster,...
Good news for sports fans. This move is fan friendly. Hopefully, we'll see similar things occur with other channels and other providers.
