How come the Pats/Falcons game isn't in full widescreen HD ?

Black bars on all fours sides of the broadcast.

Or is it just me ?

It is a local issue for you probably. Your local may not have flipped the switch.

Also, all games on FOX this year in SD will be letterboxed. Regular season games in HD will be framed for 16:9 finally.

Does this mean the camera won't be zoomed out to make sure the picture fits into the 4:3 safe area, a la the HDNet NHL broadcasts? I didn't get to see this game tonight.

Are any games still done in SD? I thought by now the contract required all games in HD.

That was a trial of the new 16 X 9 broadcast of the NFL. You can go to engadget HD and read all about it. Nice to see the linebackers and the whole play develop. If you have a 4 X 3 aspect ratio TV you should of seen letterbox format.

Actually Fox11 in LA had it in HD but ran a commercial about why you might be seeing letterbox if you're still in SD. Nicely done.

Yes all games are HD on all networks.

This however will be the 1st season where FOX will letterbox the game for SD tvs.

So now HD & SD tvs will all see the same picture.....just that the SD tvs will have black bars on top/bottom of the screen.

Awesome. Interesting that Fox was first with pushing the score box and network logo to the edge of the picture. I hope this becomes standard with all sports broadcasts. The time for this change has come.
