A Dallas, TX teenager’s Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone slipped under her pillow while she
was sleeping. Due to the resulting lack of air circulation, the phone's battery overheated and
melted, leaving burn marks on her pillow and bedsheets.

There's not much air circulating in a man's trouser pocket. So is Samsung telling us not to put their phones into our pockets?

Moral of the story, don't use a phone smarter than you are.

How about not being so obsessed with your cell phone that you have to sleep with it, especially under the pillow.

The iPhone that scorched a girl's backside malfunction only after she sat on it and heard a crunch, the noise when she crushed the unit.

The Sammy phone should have shut off after X minutes of no use, but didn't. I've had my iPhone stay on when it shouldn't be on, and it got uncomfortably hot.

There may have been a setting to keep the phone screen on for an app that she was running. There are some apps that override the normal screen settings (such as video apps where the screen going to sleep while watching a video is an annoyance).

The iPhone would be more safer since the battery life is considerably less. :)

Unfortunately, what caused this was using a "device" in bed. We bought my granddaughter a laptop when she entered high school and I paid for a year warranty that allowed a one damage repair, something I don't do. And sure enough she damaged it - she fell asleep and rolled over her open laptop in bed. Now, I know as a kid I used to sneak a book into bed to read late at night, but books still exist, they are relatively cheap, and they won't burn the house down if left under a pillow.

Mine gets pretty warm in my pocket unless I kill all the apps. Gets more than warm sometimes. My son showed me how to kill all the apps.
