I have a similar problem but on Hulu with my queue. I can go into my queue and see the content. But when I try to play it, I get a message on my HR21-700 that there is "no playable content." Then the 21-700 may freeze up. I didn't have this problem before the latest software update.

Everytime I select a video on NetFlix on HR20 or HR22 it knocks out the DVR have to reboot. HULU,CBS and the rest work fine. This started in the last week or so two diff. firmwares.

Yea, I've been having the same problem. I've given up on the HR's being reliable mediasharing machines, just bought a Roku that works great.

I am sorry to hear others are having the same issue with this, but in a sympathetic way thanks for sharing this and we should try to keep this alive as a running issue until it is resolved.

Yes I have a Roku on one of my sets and it does work great maybe I'll buy one for the other. That way I'll have NetFlix's HD on both who knows if PlayOn will ever have it.

In what I am calling an idle state, this program sucks up approximately 20% of my CPU at the max peak of nothing using it.

I also have tried using my Samsung to access the DLNA feature and the NetFlix does not play through it either. I am not sure that this can be blamed on the Directv equipment due to this. I am considering contacting the PlayOn support to talk about this some more.

PlayOn does work great on the PS3 though. I have it working on my basement setup, which is wireless.

The HR's at this point are just way too unreliable on the network. Hopefully this gets addressed, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting. They've become increasing LESS reliable after each firmware release.

Here is what MediaMall had to say...

    From: MediaMall Support [mailto:support@themediamall.com]

Subject: RE: PlayOn 2.59.3296.1432 Support Request #15737

Also note that you may need to actually uninstall Norton as a test. It has been known to block network connections even when disabled, unfortunately, and Windows reports that something is doing just that.

23:46:11.562 Unable to write data to the transport connection: An established connection was aborted by the software
    in your host machine.

    Regards,
    MediaMall Support

I am sorry, I cannot agree with removing my security software even though I have add in all the exclusions to the expected firewall exception list. MediaMall will need to come up with a better answer than removing the software. I did ask for more posibile solutions before removing the security software.

Out of curiosity, does playback work without PlayOn?

I had a weird issue using a DSM520 and YouTube and it turned out to be an ie7 Plugin problem and not PlayOn. I use Firefox and hadn't bothered to keep ie Plugins updated since I don't care about them. We found it by trying You Tube in the browser which failed.

I don't have an unlimited Netflix account so I can't test that.

Use AVG. It's much better then the complete bloatware that Norton is and it's free.

As for Netflix there are a couple things:

    1) If you look at the PlayOn release notes there are a couple general Netflix issues that have yet to be fixed.
    2) If you installed the Netflix Silverlight player that may also be a problem, unsure if they fixed that yet

There is also a bug where PlayOn will start to hog up your resources on the PC after a while. It's recommended that you shut down and restart PlayOn once in a while. I do it every 2-3 days or after I used it streaming for a long period of time. Seems to help.

Also keep in mind that the DirecTV HR series is not supported by PlayOn, it just happens to work. The PS3 and 360 are about the only things truly supported.

Now having said all that I have no problems at all with PlayOn with Hulu, YouTube, CNN or ESPN. I did about 8 hours straight of Hulu last weekend. I'm about 50/50 on Netflix, but then again there is very little that Netflix has streamable that I would care to watch anyway.

One last note, there have been 2 releases this past week (with several Netflix fixes) so be sure you have the latest version.

I think MediaMall recommends AVG also.

OTOH, I use Norton and recent versions have improved dramatically. NIS 2006 sucked, 2007 and 2008 improved markedly. But I wouldn't use 360.

PlayOn and Norton coexist quite nicely on my computers. If anyone wants settings let me know. The auto won't quite work.

Another thing, it only works with unlimited accounts; not the cheapies like I have. I think Netflix is making the "watch instantly" less and less desirable.

I'm happy to stick the DVD in a player.

I removed Norton's AV and turned off the Windows Firewall. It still does not work with NetFlix. The support team said that the logs still show that something is shutting down the connection. I am not sure what is going on here and PlayOn support said that there is not anything they can do for me now. I did try running a movie on the PC and it installed the NetFlix software to do that. That worked without any issue. I do not have any problem playing any of the Youtube stuff on the PC either. I was able to watch Youtube stuff on the TV via the PlayOn connection as well, even before removing the Norton's AV software.

I intend on getting this going and have other options to try.

Wasn't there a thread on here somewhere about the HR series having a quick trigger on UpNp connections and shutting them down if not continuously announced?

    Where's the search box?

I will say it is not Norton; I use it on two boxes with no issues once I got past the Windows problems. Besides Norton is not about to open a port then close it upon second thought.

The problem that I see with the HR2x's and PlayOn is on the HR side of things. There is something in the frimware that doesn't play well with others on the network. My PS3 just works with PlayOn and any other mediashare program. Don't get me wrong the HR's do what they are designed to do well, I just don't feel that they'll ever be able to just plug in to the network and just "work" without jumping through hoops by changing all my settings to accommodate it.

You may be correct. My little $150 DSM520 works with anything thrown at it because it was designed for that purpose.

But there are people who have success with HR's; must be UberGeeks.

LOL. I guess I'm an UberGeek then. All I've ever done with my HR's is plug them into my home network after I ran a 50 foot cable down to my home theater and put in a $25 switch. Just plugged them in and that's all I've ever done, never configured a thing. As for PlayOn, again just installed it and 5 minutes later I'm streaming Hulu and whatnot on the HRs. :D

My computer is XP latest SP and patches, AVG, XP Firewall. That's it. Perhaps those of you with problems have Vista. Windows 7 is coming! ;)

That's what I find so weird, if you read the PlayOn forums each device, like my unsupported DSM520, seems to have a consistent set of issues which are usually server setup problems. I use XP sp2 also; never have issues.

The HRs seem to depend on the day of the week and alignment of stars as to what issue will arise.
