I have recently started listening to sonic tap, and their play lists suck. Directv needs to get rid of it and add sirius xm or just get rid of it altogether that would free up space to allow them to add a few more HD channels

The SonicTap channels are on 101 and 119 spread out across multiple transponders, it isn't like digital cable where MusicChoice is all on the same physical channel. They're spread out with 4 SonicTap channels per transponder, so getting rid of them would barely be enough to add a single SD channel let alone an HD channel.

Careful KyL416, once I got called out for giving inaccurate info by saying the locations of the satellites that way :)

I haven't looked them up on the map, but I believe the ones that really matter, at 101W are on D9S, which is an SD satellite, used mainly for SD locals and Sonic Tap.

It would be useless for HD. Besides, more bandwidth has been opened up with better equipment and the ability to put up more HD per transponder. And of course we have a whole new satellite coming online Q3/Q4 next year.

You can always use Pandora if your box is internet connected.

According to the latest transponder map they're split on both D8 and D9S at 101, but some of them like Rat Pack, Holidays & Happenings (outside of Christmas), Groove Lounge, Jazz, Metro Blend, Great Standards, PUMP!, Piano and several of the international channels (Spanish, Brazilian, Italian and Irish) are on 119. Either way though, since they are spread out with about 4 per transponder, getting rid of them wouldn't even be enough to add an SD channel.

Oh I agree, but the TS was talking HD, which is a moot point for several other reasons.

I like sonic tap but I also wish we had Music Choice. MC is in ClearQAM do I can switch to the TV QAM tuner for it but I have no guide and as far as music videos, only the SD version of SWRV is in the clear (HD version is encrypted).

As music goes, add the slacker radio app, spotify and then for broadcast add Music Choice, SWRV HD, MTVU, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, and Revolt.tv HD. Don't really need SiriusXM with motormouth DJ's. They could add airplay and then I could Airplay it from my iPhone or iPad... But I do that already with my Airplay enabled Yamaha AVR in the family room.

I use to love listening to XM and MC. Now I rarely listen to their music channels. Don't know if cost's were that much higher for the other music sources but Sonic Tap is not worth listening to.

With all of the other options I have for listening to music, I have never relied on DirecTV as a source for music. The music channels do not take up enough space on the satellite to worry about whether they are there or not, but I would not miss them if they were dropped.

I work in retail and we have DMX music The channels we get worth listening too are Adult Contemporary which is what its one most of the time. Familier Favorites, Classic Hits Blend and Todays Hits. I always put it on Familier Favorites as it seems to have the largest playlist out of those. I can honestly say ive heard every single song on those certain channels. And these stations belong in a retail environement not on Directv. Just my opinion. Especially Classic Hits Blend as their playlist is all over the place.

Anyone who has the good taste to choose Ron Swanson as their avatar has my attention. Anyway, I was one of those who was deeply disappointed when DirecTV dropped XM and deployed Sonic Tap. I'm not with DirecTV anymore, might come back, but even if I were Pandora One and Google Play Music All Access are all I need music-wise. Both allow me true control of music playback, something Music Choice, Sonic Tap, and satellite radio don't. In short, I'm good and I couldn't care less if it's XM or ST since I won't be listening anyway.
