Short update here. Saturday night I reset both of my units via the Menu. Not much was recorded yesterday, only 4 programs, but every one of them started on time. That's right, on time.

I've got more scheduled to record today and setup some manual records, but it appears that a reset got the HR20's internal clock back in sync with the SAT feed. Or something else in the recording logic was reset so that they now know when to start recording shows. I'll report more after I see what happens today.

HR10 record at the right time. HR20 has done this before but was fixed, I thought a while back...

I played back a movie I had recorded about a week ago, the HR20 stopped recording before the credits even rolled...I did see part of the last scene, but not all of it. This was an HD recording on Universal HD. (great movie, btw...Dennis Farina, Brad Pitt and a whole host of other talented people seeking an 84 carat diamond...can't recall name, but it was listed as suspense, but I would call it a "dark comedy".

Just another update. Everything recorded Monday started on time or within a couple of seconds of the beginning. Even the nightly news. I don't think I've had a ST:E yet.

Update: After resetting my units 07/21 they started off recording shows properly but have been creeping later and later since then. Now two weeks after the reset my remaining HR20-100 is starting the nightly news a good minute into the show. It misses the entire intro and starts somewhere in the first story. My refurb HR20-700 (just installed this weekend) is starting every show on time.

Guess it's time to restart the -100 again to get the clock back in sync.

I haven't noticed it on the HR20's I have but I noticed that South Park on Comedy Central always starts late with my HR10 so I added a couple minutes to beginning and end on the manual recording setting.

I don't think Comedy Central even has a clock in their organization. You can never tell when the show is going to start or end. I don't like manual padding as it can and does eventually cause conflicts. For a channel like CC the only real option would be auto soft padding.

Interesting. I noticed that "Gabrieal Iglesias: Hot and Fluffy" and "Mind of Mencia" both recorded exactly correctly last night on my HR20.

Oh they get it right once in a while, but by far CC is the worst at starting/stopping shows according to the guide. At least from what I watch.

Seems like virtually every recording starts 10-30 seconds late. Usually don't miss much, so no big deal.
What bugs me more is the early ending. I can't think of any shows that actually end, when the show is totally over. Usually ends before the credits begin.
Damages was the worst for ending early, like several mins. early. One HR stopped 4 mins before the show was over, the other 3. The time bar actually went beyond the 1 hour show, but didn't catch the ending on either.
My old SD DirecTV worked perfectly.
Blame it on whatever, but one piece of hardware worked fine, two others didn't.

I have the HR20-100 and it too starts late ,just tonight I recorded the local news.It started to record already into the first news story. I have had this problem for awhile now. I did a reset from remote about 2 weekss ago,and it solved the problem only till now. I will post again when the problem reoccurs.

Exactly the same as what I'm seeing. A reset on the -100 will correct the clock, and shows start recording on time. Over about 2 weeks the clock gets out of sync and it ends up starting to record a minute or more late into a show. I'm doing another reset on mine tonight.

D*, why doesn't the -100 internal clock sync with the SAT clock other than at boot time? Seems a nightly sync might solve a lot of problems and make folks a little happier.

Thomas the Tank Engine almost always starts 1 - 2 minutes late which is about 1/2 the show.

Having seen that....many times.....I'd consider that an undocumented feature of the HR20.

I don't disagree, but when the HR20 also has problems recording The Wiggles and Blue's Clues...well, let's just say it might be dropped in the diaper champ fairly soon. :).

    It ain't doing its job!

This gets more interesting. I reset the HR10-100 Monday night. Tuesday airing of NBC Nightly News started 5 minutes late. Nothing else recording at the time. Unit in standby. Check history and it just says "Partial". Started at 5:35 and only recorded 25 minutes of it.

What is so hard about recording a show on time????
