So yesterday I noticed the program guide data on both my HR boxes disappeared -- for most but not all -- of the channels.

The strange thing is a few channels are fine. The broadcast channels have all 12 days of guide data, so do the Nick and MTV channels as well as certain channels I never watch such as Military Channel, We and Oxygen and a few others. But most, from CNN and ESPN up through AMC and beyond have nothing, The big problem here is that this has rendered my series recording capabilities relatively useless.

My R-16 box is fine, it's getting all the guide data; it's just the HR-21 and HR-23 boxes where this is happening all of a sudden . If it were just one box I'd figure it was my issue. But it's on both HR boxes, so I wonder if it's system-wide.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Thoughts on what might be wrong?

I have an H21, and 2 HR24s and they have filled out guides ( nothing missing ).
Try this and see if it fixes the problem:
Menu, Settings, Reset, Reset Receiver
As soon as you get a picture / program back on the screen do it again.

If I reset everything it says I will lose all of my recordings and that it will put everything back to Factory Settings. Not exactly what I had in mind here.

Any other thoughts?

Check the post above yours, you won't lose anything if you do what he said.

I think that last one should say RESTART receiver. Not reset...

There are 3 choices: The first one in the list "Restart Receiver" is the one to use.

I can see how you moved to the last choice since I type "Reset Receiver". Most of us refer to it as Reset instead of Restart.

Yes, thank you, doing an immediate re-start after the 1st re-start was completed fixed the problem.

OUCH!!!

Well that sure didn't last long. I turned on the TV again and all of the program guide data that was populated a little while ago is now missing again.

Thoughts?

If you did this to both boxes and now both boxes are doing it again,
you have a problem with the dish / lnb / signal strength.
Check your signal strengths on the receiver, all of the satellites that you get. If you have a Slimline 3 you will get the 99c, 99s, 101, 103ca and 103cb.
If you have the Slimline 5 you will also get the 110 and the 119.
Menu, Settings, Satellite, View Signal Strength, Press the select button on the satellite selected and it will move you to the next satellite.
We don't really care about the 99s and 103s, skip those since they are spot beams and have funky readings anyway.

Post the results back here.

I had an issue yesterday after my HR20-700 recieved a software update. All the channels were lised as "regular programing". I needed to perform a restart from the menu and then unplug the DVR 30 seconds latter before the guide very slowly reppulated itself. I also left it on because the first time I did this and shut it off it went back to 'regular programing' again. Very odd.

Also, Menu, Settings, Info and test and choose More Info and press Select.
Now use the Channel / page Down 1 time. What is the Dish that is listed ?

You need to call DirecTV for a service call. It appears that you have a problem with the LNB.

I totally agree with Jimmie. I had even worse readings that you on my HR44. I checked my other receivers and they had a few low reading but not bad. So I thought it was my 44. I was getting blackouts of A/V and lost recordings and several 771 signal errors. Stuart recommended I switch receivers around to see if the problem followed the receiver or stayed at the location. It stayed at the location. And after the switch, the other receivers got significantly worse.

I finally had a service call and they replaced my switch. Now all is great!
