Considering replacing my 921 with a 622. Can anyone say whether the software/microcode programming is done by the same company? I've had enough problems with the 921 software/microcode to want to hold off on going to the 622 if same company does both. (I'm a gray-haired software developer by trade, and am not trying to be facetious by asking the question)

I believe the were 2 different teams. Hearing about the nightmares of 921 owners vs. my pleasant experiences with the 811, 942 and 622 I think you will be pretty happy.

Art is correct. The folks that are bringing you the 942/622 is not the same group that brought you the 921. I am a 921 to 622 jumper and I am glad I made the jump.

The 921 was written, I believe, by the same folks who wrote the 721. I think those are the only two receivers actually running a Linux OS, with the receiver software being a Linux GUI app (you can actually see KDE loading if you hard-reset the machine).

Eldon is responsible for the 921 software design. I'm not sure about the 622 software team but the 942 was NOT designed by Eldon. It might have been in-house within Echostar.

In fact, the 622 GUI is similar to the GUI adopted by the 322 and 522 receivers. All of the receivers since then like the 625, 942, 211/411, and 622 have the same interface.

Do it right away. The 622 put my old 921 to shame. There are only two things that I miss from the 921.

    1. I used the Ch 0 aux input for a baby montior camera.
    2. I miss that channel change in the EPG screen by using the left arrow on a channel and not having it exit the EPG.

Otherwise, the 622 has a better ATSC tuner, can record 3 programs at once, it can server two tvs, PIP works in HD, Dish Home works (not that you'd ever use it), you have Name Based Recording, and all kinds of other perks. Oh like more HD channels too.

Its a no brainer, do it now.

Thank you very much for the replies. Guess I'll make the switch on Wednesday - never do anything on a "long weekend" Friday, nor the first day after a long weekend.
