So I had set a recording on my HR34 for 3PM Monday 12/10. When I got home and tried to find it, it wasn't there. I knew it had been scheduled, so I went to the 'History' tab. There it stated 'Canceled due to programming update'.

WTF...a programming update at 3 in the afternoon? Aren't those supposed to happen in the early hours of the morning?

First time this has happened, and not exactly a life changing event...but a pretty stupid time for a programming update. :)

    While rare daytime updates happen.

You'd think they'd send out an e-mail informing their customers that a daytime update is going to take place. Lord knows, they irritate us with their promotion based e-mails...how about a useful one.:)

I've been with DirecTV for seventeen years. In all that time I think my receivers received a daytime update twice. Like I said, it's a rare occasion.

My 3PM recordings yesterday were fine. What was the show?

I was under the impression GUIDE (programming) data was updated often throughout the day, in order to make sure the scheduler was aware of any last minute scheduling changes by the networks.

He's talking about a guide update, not a software update.

Guide updates happen all the time, regardless of the time of day. If a network changes their programming for something special new data goes out.

It actually took out two recordings...a sporting event on an ESPN channel for me, and a Judge Judy recording on our local FOX Network for my wife....both set for 3PM. A recording set for 3.30 was fine, so whatever it was was completed by then. :)

You can see if it was a software update just by checking Menu, Settings, System Info. You'll see when whatever version s/w you are currently running was installed.

I'm 99.99% sure "Programming updates" in HISTORY refer to the guide data.

I checked and it wasn't a software update, so it must have been a guide update of some description. :)

Same, though "taking out" two recordings seems very unusual. I've noticed a recording failed as the time was changed in the Guide, but the effect was only for that one show.

I discovered that only the ESPN show was canceled due to the guide programming update...the Judge Judy show displayed as canceled because it was not a first run show. :)

...and they need yet another update as SHO3HD(SHOwcase HD) is screwed up by 1 hour as I type this...

Can you be more specific? I just read this now, and see that "Sexy Baby" is on and scheduled to run to 9 pm. Is that what was off?

Also, schedule changes are initiated by the content provider, sent to The Tribune, which then forwards the info to DIRECTV®.

..and it should have been 10 pm ET/PT per SHO's own schedule. The entire D* lineup for that channel was shifted 1 hour in relation to what it was actually showing.

War Horse still had an hour to go when the D* guide showed it was to end and Sexy Baby was supposed to be starting.

EDIT: now it appears to be in sync.

EDIT2: Ok just looked at the SHO schedule again and now they show Sexy Baby as starting and 10:30 PM ET/PT. It was 10 PM previously, so something screwy is going on. I sat and watched the final hour of War Horse before Sexy Baby came on, so I know I'm not imagining this. LOL

Are you sure you weren't watching from the buffer and somehow the buffer was behind? That's happened to me a few times.
