Protection plan did not cover install. Why?

    Unusual problem. I am down in Texas from Iowa for the winter. When I got to my rental unit, I found out that the DirecTV dish I had used for 3 previous years before via movers connection had been taken down because some storm damage on the roof had needed repair. The dish was not put back up.

    I called DirecTV. They said I would be billed $49 plus tax which I had to pay up front. Couple days later, DirecTV service man put the dish back up & it works just fine. My question: Why wouldn't my protection plan cover this install?

    The Protection Plan covers mechanical and electrical failure as well as defects of workmanship. It does not cover 3rd party actions, like the dish being taken down for roof repairs.

    You might argue for a customer service adjustment

    My Dish was out of adjustmnet and could no longer get any HD content

    They credited the $ 49 for the service call based on time/loyalty

    Service Tech indicated original install was not secure and eventually the dish could no longer receive most HD content at all times in stead of just during light rain

    Again, not the case here as he had the dish taken down for roofing repairs. Your situation was different in that it was indicated it may not have been installed securely in the 1st place.

    the credit was offered while we were scheduling the sevice call

    AFAIK they hadn't been here since the H10's needed to be replaced

    In warranty and/or Protection Plan coverage is exclusive of customer caused repair or replacement. Dish removal is obviously out of coverage. Caveat is, were it remounted and simply SFSS, it's usually covered.

    $49 is an excellent charge for that issue!

    Id be glad it wasnt $100 or $200!!!!

    plus the insurance check will cover that $49 if you add it on to your repair

    You should have told them the storm knocked it down, I believe it does cover if its knocked over by the storm

    They are a for profit company...numero uno for them is Directv...like it should be. It is clearly spelled out what the PP covers and doesnt cover. If you feel its ok to lie to try to defraud, knock yourself out, but kharma is a bi****.

    kahrma may be a bitch, but the logic behind directv waiving and not waiving charges is random at best.


    I was just suggesting he ask for a good customer adjustment

    Had rge roofers put it back, they would have pointed it for free

    they already make a killing on the PP plan, hell they even pay the techs for selling it, its gauranteed revenue, most people forget they have it and just pay for it for 10 years or so while paying for service calls and what not because they never mentioned they had it.

    storm damage should be covered by your home owners insurance, not really directv......Ive collected several check from insurance companies after storms for new dish installs.

    please don't have the roofers put it back up. Chances are they will mount it between two rafters and it will have to be redone.

    I actually feel like I have come out ahead with the PP for the number of calls and replaced owned units that are still marked as owned. Of all my devices only 1 is leased - that is the HR34, the others are owned and have been replaced a couple of times over the years with upgraded owned devices, last one netted me a HR24 and the OTA tuner to replace a defunct HR20, still marked as owned
