No rattle yet on my RC65RX remote that came with my HR24-500 but the rubber like coating is starting to lift off.

I just received 2 replacement RC65RBX back lit remotes under the protection plan for my HR20 and HR21. All I told the CSR was I needed 2 RF remotes and I received them in 2 days. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with the CSR. I found out the rep who said he was in Arkansas knew his stuff. He told me he is a lurker on this forum who gave me the handle of some of the mods and SR so I know he was for real.

Just a caveat for some who have the same setup as I do. Several DTV DVRs set up with RF with multiple remotes. One of the remotes "5" button died, saw this thread and said "Hey, I've got the protection plan, time to get the remote replaced" Called em up, got transferred to someone in the protection plan arena who insisted that we "try something to see if indeed the 5 doesn't work and if it can be reset" Bottom line, he had me "reset" the remote to factory settings - 5 still didn't work. He ordered me a new one. Then I noticed that the remote didn't operate the DVR, he said he'd email me directions - I said "no, you caused this problem walk me through it." The remote had to be programed to operate two different DVRs and a TV. To get the remotes to operate multiple DVR's you have to enter the last six digits of the DVR ID number into the remote - just my luck the DVR that this remote was mainly used for and hooked to the TV that the remote controlled had a "5" in the DVR ID number - so it couldn't be programmed.
Just a warning to those with complex set ups.

It's unfathomable to me that you have to pay to replace a remote control that has gone bad unless you have the "protection plan"

Unless DirecTV has changed their policy recently, you don't. I did have to go through a few steps with my remote before the CSR realized I needed a new one. It only took a few minutes.

I think it depends on what day it is whether or not you will...or perhaps if you are a little old lady from Kansas they decide it "costs" to replace it. :sure:

The more I see about the "randomness" of the the answers you receive from these CSRs the more it seems to be a deliberate method. Not one of just poor training.

The inconsistencies are very frustrating. I guess that's why the only way to get anything done with DTV is to play CSR roulette.

The roulette wheel is rigged so it really ISN'T a game of "chance" .

They put casino operators in jail for stuff like that too.

Perhaps that is why D* has has a number of class action suits against them.

Hey mods these 2 obviously have an agenda to post their BS in every topic there is on here. looks like they are set on trying to ruin the forum for the other 99% that come here to discuss and help people with Directv.

I have to say my remote worked perfectly before I returned it. From an R 12 box....only the printed numbers were failing..also it had a slight noise when you would gently shake it of a loose piece of plastic rattling around inside it.

How many dogs or kids do you think break remotes? Remotes are not covered with any company. I know you're going to say with cable they give you a new one but check your bill for your remote fee first.

Remotes are $15 so if people get deals on $199 HD DVR's why would people not get a break on a remote? Why is having something discretionary at the power of the person on the phone a bad thing? If you say because it should be the same for everyone then that means every customer would have to be the same as well.

    LOL......... wut?

Good, we understand that you like CSR roulette.

Most customers would tell you they don't.

I wonder how D* would feel if I just didn't feel like paying the quoted price random months because I didn't see much content worth watching. I bet that would go over just fine, right? !rolling

Sometimes you might get a break when ordering something and sometimes you don't. It happens with any business that you order a product from. If the CSR/sales rep that you are talking to happens to like you, they might just through in something free or give you a discount. Sometimes they won't do that.

You're paying for a service. If DirecTV decides to give you something at a discount or for free, that's their perogative. Not every customer will get it and you might not get it every time. It has nothing to do with whether you decide to pay the quoted price each month.

No it just meant that you wouldn't get a self programming remote or an X model. However Mike just posted he got them so that might change things.

If you received these then I wonder if that's the end of the RC64RBs. I had to get one replaced due to damage once and DIRECTV wouldn't ship an X model so I had to order it on E-Bay.

I have never once paid for a broken remote. Of course, I also don't play tennis with my remotes either :)

I've had to replace them when they stop working with Brighthouse (local cable co) and never once have I had a remote fee.

If the sales reps are well trained, this does not work. I've tried CSR roulette with BHN as well as my cell phone company and it never works. I do recall with DirecTV that CSR roulette worked often when I was looking for promotions and such (when I was a customer of course).

This is also exactly what I was criticized for on here, for "complaining" to the CSRs about getting a better deal. I support this completely and think if you can get a better deal then do it. Again, it seems that only DirecTV does this, largely in part due to the poorly trained CSRs.
