What is "facebook" ??
This is an interesting discussion considering how "addicted" many of us are to this site and these forums. In general in this electronic society, including TV, there are many distractions that could be considered addictive. For me, I go in waves with my electronic addiction du jour.
Facebook creates the illusion that you just saw/talked with someone even though you may have not seen/talked with them for years.
I like Facebook but I am also annoyed by how many of my friends can't seem to spell or use proper grammar.
Even with all of the annoyances I still find myself checking in via PC and phone several times per day.
I mostly use my Facebook account to keep up with some high school people that were more, using a term from my grandmother, "friendly acquaintances" than friends, and various cousins. That and a community page that sometimes has stuff going around the neighborhood.
One thing that I've noticed is that there are people that I'd lost contact with for the past 25 years and/or fringe friends that I get along with really well on Facebook. Where there are people that I see often that annoy the hell out of me on Facebook.
Rather than being continuously annoyed, you can block the feeds from such people.....
Almost everybody annoys the hell out of me on Facebook. I just don't care what people are doing every minute of their lives.
Then again, almost everybody annoys the hell out of me in real life too.
This is why I never joined FB or twitter in the first place.
I have family members that feel it necessary to keep me informed monthly about the crap/gossip going on in the FB.
I compare it to cancer the way it spreads. I get e-mails all the time wanting me to join FB.
I have toned it down quite a bit, I used to be here a lot more than on facebook, but then I got enamored with all the things popping up on screen, and how people were doing and then I realized, it is only a snapshot of what they want me to see, nothing more. I am contemplating tossing it all together or simply only close friends I'd chat with face to face anyhow, so then I wonder, why would I need it again? them little pop ups suck all the time (life) out of people. Just saying...I'm likely cutting it off in the next month or so.
Just viewed a story on Knoxville Tn. local ch#8 news where one person murdered another because they dropped the friendship flag on FB. :nono2:
Murder...suicide...infidelity...the ugly underbelly of facebook and other "social" media sites.
Blaming social media for a psychopaths tantrum is tantamount to blaming airports for terrorism.
No, it isn't.
Yes, it is. It's like blaming video games for violence. Or the internet for child pornography.
Defective people are defective. They are going to do the same stuff regardless of the media they have access to.
If it were just that simple...
Here's some good news, then: It is simple and easy. Since I've blocked everyone I want to some time ago, I can't give you the exact step, but if you click to the right of the annoying person's name, you'll find it.
But what if they post something slutty and I miss it?
Good point! There's probably an app for that, but I don't gots.....
