Aligning a dish is somewhat more complicated than just pointing in about the right direction. Specific procedures depend on the type of dish you have. Is it a round 18" dish, an older Type III 3 LNB dish, a newer Slimline dish with a 3 or 5 LNB assembly? If it is slimline, is it SWM or conventional?

Your best bet would be to call DirecTV and have a tech out to fix the problem. But the installation itself (a pole connected to a fence pole) does not sound like an approved installation configuration, so it may require moving the dish to a more suitable installation.

For some guidance on where/how to aim your dish, go to www.dishpointer.com, but you will need to know the type of dish you have to use that site.
