Are the shows that are listed at .01 really only that much? I don't want to run up a bill if they actually turn out to be 2.99 or more.

It is true. But don't expect it to stay that way when DOD is released nationally.

Does anyone know if they charge you when the download begins or when you start the movie for the first time?

It doesn't bill you until you watch it.

When you watch the movie; you will be asked whether or not you accept the charge upon viewing.

I've seen a $0.01 charge on my bill, so yes I think it's really 1ยข.

It would be nice if there were more PPV's

There really aren't any that I wanted to see.

do you think they will eventualy get rid of the other PPVs and replace it with DoD?

I doubt that will happen as there are still customers out in the real word that do not have any sort of broadband capability. My guess is that they probably out number those of us that do have the ability to download. Going to all DOD cuts off a big revenue stream.

Yes. DOD = DirecTV on Demand.

Some of us have been beta testing it.

I'd be willing to bet atleast 75% of the recievers out there still aren't DVRs and many dont want to pay 6 bucks a month for dvr service. No DVR, No DOD.

As far as VOD goes Cable and fiber based systems have a major advantage over DBS providers.

thanks for the reply. I expect that one DoD launches prices will be higher but wanted to make sure that during testing it was only a penny. I am downloading anything and everything to test.

They are charging you $0.01 so that they can test out the charging mechanism for VOD.

    I have a question about the .01

I have watched a couple of the penny movies. Where is the .01 charge stored and retrieved from? For those of us without phone lines will DirecTv be able to access the access card via the internet?

Stored on the access card. At this time we do not think that they are able to retrive the charges via internet. Once your card reaches the limit, you are cut off until a telephone download.

I started a movie for the 2nd time to see what would happen and was asked again about the charge.

I may have missed this but is the charge 1 time or each time you watch it.?

I do not have a phone line hooked to this receiver but may run one and have it call to see how it appears on the bill.

Downloaded PPV movie "Fierce Creatures" last night for $0.00. Never got stopped to authorize charge since it was 0. Strange stuff during this beta. Why would some be .01 and some 0?
