I was just browsing the forums and saw a promo code for a free DVR...and sure enough it worked! (By the way it was DVR4U2.)

Is there any other promo codes anyone knows to be valid and worth mentioning here?

Aww...do you know if the DVR code is unlimited? Meaning you can use it more than once?

woo, thanks for sharing this code, michaelyork29. I just ordered a free R15 to replace an SD non-DVR receiver that's years old. Does the included installation cover the tech running a new line so that the R15 has 2 satellite in cables running into it, not just 1?

The D* website will let me me order another free R15 and I just had a freebie installed a month and a half ago. So is there really a one per year limit?

Should I get an R15 to replace my old Hughes SD-DVR40 DirecTivo? What is the popular consensus around here, is a 100 hour R15 DVR better than a 35 hour DirecTivo?

A lot of people will say the Tivo beats the R15 in most ways. The R15 has been significantly improved with software updates but still needs at least one more. Having never had a Tivo I am very happy with my R15. Could I be happier? That remains to be seen. I intend to get one of the cutting edge pre-release software updates for my R15s. The consensus is that they have cleaned up a lot of the remaining issues.

D* may have also cleaned up their data streams which could have accounted for issues (I have no proof of this).

I have seen speifications interpreted two different ways with the mass deployed item forcing changes to the sender. Either because its too difficult to update all of the software in the mass deployed items or because they have the better interpretation of the specification. Personally I've changed engineering direction a number of times when it was realized my interpretation was better and truer to the intention. (OK, I'm tooting my own horn here.)

Wow...this is excellent. Now I won't have a single room without a DVR. Too bad the installer has to come out for this. I have a dish upgrade and HR20 install scheduled for the 8am-noon session and then this new DVR install for the noon-5pm session. I really hope a manual review process is undertaken so they realize they should just send the DVR with the first installer. Otherwise, the second guy is going to be pissed....or really happen with a 2 minute install.

Glad I could help. The standard installation does cover the tech running new lines.

    Wow...wasn't expecting this...but it worked again!! :) DirecTV...I love you! :D

In case it matters, remember that you are resetting your two-year comittment each time you get a free R-15.

And you might be knocking yourself out of other special offers for six months.

But if you use that code you get an SD receiver!

They will give you as many SD boxes as you want, no code is needed.

Well wouldn't you also be resetting your 2-year commitment each time you activate a new receiver anyways?
