    Hi All,

Brand new to Hopper after years of 722K. Earlier today set a recording on my RSN's HD channel feed(ROOT Pittsburgh ch. 412-18) for Pittsburgh - Boston hockey game. Sat down to watch, when I go to my recordings I see the icon, when I select it and hit more info, I see recording length 4 hrs 31 minutes.

However when i choose watch, I get a slate telling me "This is a special event not available for purchase". I verified that I can access the channels in live mode to make sure there wasn't a channel authorization issue.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. It appears that the recording is there but i can't play it back.

    Thanks very much in advance.

Resolved. Message was due to the start time I selected, one minute prior to the game airing. Once I waited a minute, the slate went away and the recording began. A very cryptic message, though.

It makes sense ... the program one minute before was something you couldn't watch. I'm glad that the recording didn't mess up and give you 4 1/2 hours of the HD "check back to see your team" slate. There was a time DISH receivers did that. :(

Its good to hear it switched over. It used to be that it would stay on the slate the whole time. (The slate actually comes from a different sat/transponder as the channel when its playing, and the recording wouldn't switch mid-recording was the given reason as I recall).

Same sat/transponder but different PIDs. The slate and music exists each of the transponders used for part time sports channels. The switch on and off does not involve a transponder change.

Each morning (currently 6:21am ET) DISH shuffles the part time sports channels to the correct transponders to be used later in the day. The actual PIDs each channel points to is controlled on the transponder. Before and after the event the channel is pointed at the slate PIDs. When the channel goes live the channel is repointed to the actual feed PIDs (information carried ONLY on that transponder).

BTW: The base feeds are on the HDSKD channels (or SKDL for SD versions) for engineering use (channels in the 5xxx range).
