I have 16 months left on a two year contract but I called anyway to see if I could free redzone again. I explained that due to Pac 12 channel I will be adding comcast for two months during football season so that may have helped me. Anyway, I got a free year of red zone channel for the third or fourth year in a row. No additional contract. I have premier but only because I'm getting about 40 bucks of credits a month.

Called Retention and got the RZ channel and a Genie upgrade at no cost, as well as $15 off my bill for 15 months.

I agreed to a new 24 month contract. (I don't plan on switching anyway - Charter is the only other game in town and they su*k).

Called through Retention and got a RZ-only deal for free. We'll see if that really works or not...

Called retention and asked RZ without ST like I had last year. What I got was RZ and ST for free, $20 off a month for 12 months, and a free Genie upgrade.

I'd like someone to confirm channel # this year. It was 703 last year, but apparently not this year.......

Why do you think it'll be different? It may be, but predicting based on other than past practice seems fruitless. I'm sure it won't be hard to find once it's running.

When I got it again this year, the CSR told me to watch for it on 723.

DIRECTV websites says RZC is still channel 703 and its in the Guide already. Unless they use a different channel for stand alone RZC?

    RED ZONE CHANNEL®
When you want to see the final yards of all the scoring drives around the league, just tune to the RED ZONE CHANNEL® (Ch. 703) and see them all on one channel—on your TV or your mobile device.

I just called to say that I was considering switching back to Comcast, as I could get the Red Zone on Comcast with Comcast's version of the Sportspak for what Directv was charging me for the Sportspak. The regular CSR transferred me to the disconnect department - CSR's words, not mine. The disconnect department agent answered by saying that this year they were able to add for free the Red Zone channel and he also threw in an extra 10 bucks off my Sportspak charge for 6 months. For my Sunday football viewing needs, I'm all set now - even when I had the Sunday Ticket for free in my first year with Directv, I only watched the Giants and, when the G-men aren't playing, the RedZone was my default channel anyway.

When I logged into my account, this is how it is being shown:

Red Zone Channel 2013 HD - Charge

    $0.00

    SPORTS - $10/6mosSPORTS

    ($10.00)

I've been a long time Sunday TIcket customer but just thinking the red zone channel only would be enough for me this season.

For those of you getting the red zone channel for free. I'm confused. Are you getting access to the NFL Network's version of the Red Zone or the one that is part of Sunday Ticket?

Channel 703; I don't think DirecTV carries the NFLN's version.

That's correct, only the DirecTV version of the RZC is available on DirecTV. I've never seen the NFL Network version, but I LOVE the DirecTV version with Andrew Siciliano!

Is there not a condensed version of a Red Zone type of thing- i.e., a highlight reel of a couple of hours of the day's best plays, (not necessarily scoring plays or inside the 20)?

Do you mean after the games are over? No. Once Andrew signs off for the day he's done, but he does do a recap before saying goodbye for the week.

Also, all Sunday afternoon games are available as 30 minute games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I believe, which show every play from that game without huddles, replays, etc.

Thanks. Didn't mean produced by the RZ folks (love Siciliano, too.), but possibly something by ESPN, FOX or NBC.

Assuming you are out of contract; when prompted, say you want to cancel your service because with cable provider xyz you can get the Red Zone channel with the cable provider sports pak, and that's why you are thinking of cancelling Directv to switch to cable.
If you are still under contract, call and tell them you don't need the entire ST, just the Red Zone. If they say no, then you say, "then I'm afraid I'm cancelling the ST this year, as I can't justify paying x per month when I just watch the Red Zone" - when I did that last year, they offered me credits to offset the cost of the ST with the Red Zone.
Side comment: I won't be surprised if, as part of the current contract discussions for renewing ST, Directv works an agreement wtih NFL so that Directv can offer the Red Zone as a stand-alone product, just like any other provider can.

called once again, and still say its only offered with ST. Two years in a row. I use to call Directv and ask if they had any deals, and Directv would give me stuff left and right. Now I call and nothiIg, every so often they will give me showtime or starz.

Im really thinking of swithing over to Suddenlink. They have Tivo, I can get a tivo and tivo mini's that are wireless or use cat 5.
    No HD fee.
They have most of the HD channels that Directv has(most basic channels/prem channels.)

They should give us Redzone to make up for cutting off ESPN 3D at the end of SEPT. No more Masters Golf in 3D LIVE or football and basketball games from last year!
