Redbox Instant app coming to Roku players this summer

Redbox Instant recently launched on the Google TV platform and today it's officially announcing plans for a Roku channel. Despite its absence from the original list of devices, Redbox mentioned at Google I/O support for the Roku platform would likely be in the cards. Similar to the Google TV launch (and the recent Hulu Plus update) the app won't work on first gen Roku hardware, but once it's available will bring its unique package of subscription streaming / VOD / kiosk DVD & Blu-ray access to the hockey puck streamers. Still, the reports we've heard from early users are mostly mentioning the need for more subscription streaming content, but getting within shouting distance of the likes of Netflix and Amazon won't be easy.

With Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go, Vudu and Blockbuster all on Roku already, how much compelling content can Redbox bring to the table?

Redbox is moving very slow at getting Hardware adoption. I don't know if they will ever catch up

Well, even if they are on Roku, their content available for streaming is extremely limited. Plus, what they do have is mostly stuff I have never heard of or would never think of watching.

It's available now. It seems for a monthly fee (I'm not going for it) you get to stream the same movies everyone else has plus 4 DVDs a month from your local box.

You're not missing much. Basically, you get 4 rentals a month for $7.99 with it, plus access to a very limited streaming library.

That is exactly the content I am looking for. I'm not so much of a big summer blockbuster fan, but prefer the offbeat, the indies, and the quirkier flicks. Speaking of which, has anyone (but me) seen Helen Hunt in "The Sessions"? Highly recommend.

I don't mind those either, but these seemed to be even those movies that are lower than that.
