In the past I have managed to program 8 remotes to work on different codes on 8 receivers in the same room. Yet now I cannot manage to program a single remote to do anything. I must have lost my touch. Anyways, I have 1 sony tv 1 sony receiver and 1 hr34 and i want the remote to control them all to turn on/off together, the volume to tell the receiver vol to work not tv volume. Ive managed to program the receiver to turn on/off if i toggle to av1 but the rest does not work. It scans for codes depending on the model number but fails each time. Remote is in IR mode. Please help so I can watch some hockey and not struggle with this all night. Thanks!

You can not turn off and on the stereo along with tv and Dvr, when using the tv/sat On & Off keys. If the stereo goes off when the tv does, it has nothing to do with directv remote, its CEC from HDMI. Anyways:

    1. TV
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 1 0 8 1 0

    1. AV1 or AV2
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 3 1 7 5 8

    1. av1 or av2
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 9 9 3
    4. press SELECT

First of all the volume keys won't work at all without a tv code programmed to the tv device. And once there is a tv code its volume is now in the way but that can be remedied via the VOL LOCK feature. There are 3 versions of the vol lock:

    a) 1. av1 or av2
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 9 9 3
    4. press VOL UP

The above unlocks the volume in ALL devices, and so you shouldn't ever use it. The problem with it is, it will get the stereo volume in the AV1 device, but if you also have dvd or bluray on the av2 device it won't have tv or Stereo volume any longer, it will have its own volume, which you shouldn't be touched.

    b) 1. av1 or av2
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 9 9 3
    4. press VOL DOWN

The above unlocks the volume in a single device, leaving the other devices set to tv volume.

    c) 1. av1 or av2
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 9 9 3
    4. press SELECT

The above punches through the current device's volume to ALL other devices including Directv and TV devices. Which is what you want. If you want to restore the tv volume in just the tv device do the following too:

    1. TV
    2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT, wait for two blinks, release
    3. enter 9 9 3
    4. press VOL DOWN
