In my Guide I have an advertisement and hot link to a Lifetime Movie Network show called "Sexting in Suburbia". I have a custom guide setup and LMN is not even on it. This advertisement is stuck in the guide right between WGNHD and ABC Family HD. Is there a way to remove this from the guide. I have a 6 & 9 year old and this is stuck right around the channels we watch and I really don't want to explain to them what sexting is. Come on DirecTV!! Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks.

There's no way to get rid of the ads.

Use the Contact Us on the DirecTV web site ( directvcustomercare@directv.com ) and write to them expressing your displeasure.
I have already done this about the Banner Ads.

You can also call them and complain about it. Ask for supervisor.

I thought that the ad is attached to the channel that is above it.

I know that removing the channel above it and below it will eliminate it. Not sure where it is actually tied to.

Nah, I found you can get ads for any channel in your package regardless of whether or not it is in a favorites list.

I changed to all channels and added 311hd to my favorites list and the banner popped up on my favorites list.
Removing 311hd made it go away.

Of course if his is a channel you watch a lot this is not the answer for the OP.

Sure seems like a poor choice by DirecTV for placing a "Sexting" ad next to ABC Family :nono2:

Not that ABC Family is really "Family" anymore (it is a contract requirement from the purchase to call it that) with shows about sexual innuendo and teen pregnancy, but the choice to advertise "Sexting" anywhere on the guide is poor.

In the mean time, perhaps a learning opportunity for the kids: teach them to use the web based Guide, or TitanTV; the latter can be customized.

Guys, thanks for the replies. I called customer service and let them know my displeasure. I think I got my point across. Maybe something good will come from it but probably not.

Thanks for the clue about the ad being linked to the channel below it in the guide. Lifetime Movie Network has Disney as a co-owner. ABC is owned by Disney also. That is probably the link of the two.

I agree that ABC Family has a lot of programming that contains material not suitable for kids. However, especially over the holidays, there has been a lot of children's programming on it (Disney's Hercules and Pocahontas is on tonight). And that bright pink ad for "Sexting in Suburbia" is right there above it. It is sad.....

If you want to go that far then good luck to you. They aren't going to remove ad revenue if you leave. :)

This doesn't exactly fit the topic, but has anyone else noticed in the last year or two the growing number of adult-topic infomercials there are, even on mainstream channels? Bigger body parts, dysfunction relief, adult toys, etc, etc.

My sister was over (she has kids) and she was shocked at some of the things she saw in my guide.

It is more than the guide. Commercials for Viagra et al pop up on family shows.

Even during a Christmas Story, the ad for Cougar Town repeated over and over. Really?

No, the call didn't work. It was there all day today. The ad only went off the guide because the show finally aired on lifetime movie network. At least it is gone for now. I'm sure they will put up some other inappropriate ad soon.....
